 nitzanPremium,VIP join:2008-02-27 kudos:2 | [VoiceStick] Head's up. Hi guys,
I heard from someone that GEOS Communications is pulling the plug on VoiceStick, and it seems like no advance warning is going to be given to users. Assuming this is true- you might want to port your number out RIGHT NOW if you have a number through them.
As far as Future Nine goes- we decided to make things a little easier for people who port out of VoiceStick due to this, and we're reducing the porting fee to half ($12.5) for people who port out of VoiceStick until the end of the month. Please note you MUST include "VOICESTICK promo" in the special requests field of the porting request.
Please note that this is something I've heard through a 3rd party. If GEOS/VS people want to give an official statement and clear this up - they're obviously more than welcome to. I suspect though that our beloved Fuzzy is no longer with VoiceStick. |

nitzanPremium,VIP join:2008-02-27 kudos:2 | If anyone wants to contact GEOS/VoiceStick and ask - by all means post here what they reply. I'd love the rumor to be wrong - my only concern is for users who are going to get stuck without service and/or lose their number. If I'm wrong then I'd be happy for someone who knows better than me to correct me!! |

1 edit | Whether the rumor is true or not, these things can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Small companies especially can be susceptible to rumors.

| reply to nitzan Now if it does go belly up wouldn't it still be possible to port after the fact? Just becomes a little harder. Think it may be best to pull all your info and exact name, number, address, etc. account number etc. Because if a company goes belly up pulling your info after the fact is what is hard to give to your new provider? Plus do not wait many months after the fact either. |

| reply to PX Eliezer GEOS had intended to continue as a company, based on their SEC filing just a few days ago.
VoiceStick is just one of several VoIP products that they (GEOS) offer. But in fact, the company told the SEC that most of their cash flow in 2009 was from VoiceStick.
They also intended to expand into new services and new markets.
If---I say IF---they do close the particular VoiceStick product with no warning, then they will be horribly trashing their own reputation with regard to other products.
Furthermore, why would they kill their main cash flow generator?
Foolish all around.
And harmful again to independent VoIP. |

1 edit | Call to support and to billing/accounts at MGT got me a 'Sorry' message about tech support line not being available due to technical problems, but it referred me to their support form at the web site. I didn't bother...
Could be a problem with transition processes. |

BruceNHi join:2006-11-17 Roswell, GA | reply to nitzan Sorry to see them go. Oh well! Nitzan, sounds like a fair offer you are making. BTW I switched to Future9 several months ago from VS. Works very well. It passes the wife test |

BruceNHi join:2006-11-17 Roswell, GA | reply to nitzan I have looked at some public comments made by what are now former employees. Seems from what I can tell that GEOS (was i2) is getting out of the telcom business. From the comment I saw, they are closing down their network.
I assume that they will give proper legal notice.
Best guess is that they have run into lower amounts of funding, as they have been running step losses for several years.
Not sure if they will continue to be a going concern. Hope they take care of refunding account balances. |

How sad.
I wish that a few years ago these folks had rationalized their confusing product line. So many different products, different websites, different identities. And all confusing. Sticks and Bridges and Chutes and Ladders!
-----------------------------------------------
Now, I do take this in all seriousness.
The OLD story: Because of upper management, the employees and the customers all suffer.
-----------------------------------------------
Top Ten Signs Your Voip Company Is Challenged:
1) Getting rid of the smartest guy around.
2) Getting rid of the smartest guy around, a second time.
3) Moving from Georgia to Texas. (NK was smart enough to do the reverse).
4) Using the name "i2" even though the top products were MyGlobalTalk, VoiceStick, etc.
5) Changing the name from "i2" to "GEOS".
6) Letting a marketing company make operating decisions.
7) Letting a marketing company set up a key website which had crucial defects. ("The marketing WIZ did the MGT site. It was missing things like "calls as low as 2 cents a minute" and lacked a place to do a sign up with a credit card.")
8) Using language such as this: "Leveraging a unique combination of transformational technology, intellectual property as well as strategic and pervasive distribution channels, Geos provides products and applications that support the mobility of enterprises, small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) and consumers."
9) Thinking that MyGlobalTalk Rove (Roam Often Virtually Everywhere) is a snappy name.
10) Thinking that buying "Shoot it!" was smart. This lets you take a photo with an iPhone and send it to someone by snail mail! Snail mail!! (Even the Post Office knows that the Post Office does not represent the future!) |

| This REALLY was a debacle that could have been avoided.
Just as Shell and Exxon are DEEPLY pissed off at BP for making things bad for everyone---and even BP's own partners are pissed at BP management---other VoIP providers should be highly pissed at Geos management.

Another demonstration that WALL STREET types FRACK THINGS UP!
Privately held companies with owner involvement, doing well: CallCentric, CallWithUs, Voip.MS, PhonePower, VOIPo, F9.
Publicly traded companies that needed cash infusions and have uncertainties ahead: Vonage, Ooma, and today's apparent news about GEOS/i2/VoiceStick/MGT. |
