We have had Sprint mobile broadband using a Merlin air card in router for 2 wireless laptops. we have an external antenna mounted to the house running to the air card. our service has been getting slower and slower. we moved the antenna to the second story of our house and can get 600 to 700 kbps now. which is much better than it had been. but now we keep keeping booted, loosing connection, whatever you want to call it when we download video. Cable is not available in our area. there is a local wireless provider but their service goes down for days when ever it rains or the wind blows hard. Cingular is even slower than Sprint. Any suggestions on getting better reception or service? Moving isn't an option
Do what Max said and read all the tips that Jim has posted. If you have a good strong stable signal then it may be that your tower is overloaded. Many Sprint cell sites have very low capacity with limited back haul to the network. According to the Verizon coverage tool it looks like you should have very good coverage on that network. You may want to look into switching to a Millenicom.com 10 Gigabyte Data account that works on the Verizon network. Most of the Verizon cell sites have very good speeds and low ping times.
quickie question.................if i put the merlin card in a laptop and do all the suggestions, then I put the card back into the router, will the card remember the changes, or are the changes software based on the laptop? I guess what I'm asking is will the changes "reprogram" the card? hope that makes sense
