 | Wideband in Mesquite, TX (Dallas) Well, It finally seems DOCSIS 3.0 has been rolled out in the Mesquite area near Dallas. I have a SB 6120 so I called and ordered the 50/5 service. Yet, I am still getting 15/2 Turbo speeds lol. After speaking with Tier 3, they are saying since I have a customer owned modem, they will have to set me up with a TWC DOCSIS 3.0 modem for me to get the proper speeds.
I dunno if that is entirely true or not. A field tech was onsite today but he did not have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem with him so he will be coming back tomorrow with one. I checked my modem's diagnostics screen and it shows I am bonded to 4 downstream channels (783MHz, 789MHz, 795MHz and 801MHz).
Funny thing is after the field tech took my modem off TWC's network and added it back in, my speeds have now dropped to 7mbps down and 0.5mbps up lol.
Just wondering if anyone else had/has a similar issue with getting their wideband service in Dallas, TX area. |

That modem is an upgraded verison of the one I had so no complaints lol.
Now I am getting the full 50/5 speeds. Issue resolved. |

cbar2 join:2010-02-22 Dallas, TX | reply to jibesh101 I just got the Wideband service here in Dallas - Awesome! Loving it! Except for this... after 10 days of using the service for work, today I can no longer VPN into work. I called TWC tech support just to have the operator tell me that the Wideband service does not support VPN tunneling - Huh? Then why has it worked for the last 10 days? And, if it won't support a VPN tunnel, I've got to cancel the service and go back to AT&T DSL - Please say it isn't so!! |

| Are you sure you heard them right? I would think that TW won't support your VPN as that isn't theirs to support. If your connection is working normally and the only thing that isn't working is your VPN you might want to talk to your support at work and have them fix it. |

Unless RR is unknowingly blocking certain ports, that RR phone support operator has absolutely no idea what he or she was talking about. |

henryf join:2002-03-23 Richardson, TX | reply to jibesh101 Funny - I am in Richardson and ordered Wideband last week (30/5). They asked if I had my own wireless network here and I said, "Yes, and I want to keep using my router. Please just bring me a modem." OK, so they show up with the 6580. What a fancy piece of crap. Yes, built in N and router - Fancy! But if you enable the built in VPN server, it breaks port forwarding AND the VPN server does not even work. I actually called Motorola and they confirmed that the config page for VPN does not work and they do not know when they will fix it. So Tier 3 says maybe if I buy one off the shelf (not flashed with TWC's firmware) then I'll do better. Besides enabling the guest wireless SSID (which is hidden in the TWC firmware), it's the same problems.
That is all a nusience but what really stinks is that the 6580 has no QOS settings for LAN traffic - I have 30/5 speed and my IP Phone breaks up! WTF? I was solid with UVerse because I had my own router running the show.
Of course, the Moto does let you passthrough another IP so that I COULD use my own router if only I could buy an extra IP. But that is a "Business" account so my bill goes from $70 to $320 per month. No thanks.
So, back to your point, I go buy a 6120 because it's DOCSIS 3.0. Except no, it will NOT work. I get tossed back to 7/0.5 just like you did. THe Tier 3 guy says my modem is not accepting the config. He can set it to rr Extreme and that works but as soon as he ups it to 30/5, it drops to 7/0.5.
SO... I go buy the Zoom 5341 from Best Buy. NOW I get 50 Mbps down (super hot!) but I only get 512K up.
I don't know what's up... Maybe TWC built the whole wideband thing around Moto's buggy 6580 and now they ONLY work with it and no other DOCSIS 3.0? Or something... WHo knows. All I know is that it's freaking stupid to assume that the customer who is paying for this high of speed will be so non-tech savvy as to need a router provided by an ISP and have no problem with that. Anyone who does alot of uploading and using an IP phone will get hit with this crazy. |

 | reply to jibesh101 Actually, you can have pass through without another IP address.
Go to Basic -> Primary Mode -> NAPT mode and set it to Disabled and press Apply.
This should enable Rg PassThrough option under the Advanced menu.
This works perfectly fine for me and my pfSense router behind the Motorola SB6580 holds the public ip address that is dynamically assigned by TWC's network. I don't have to enable any other routing or port forwarding rules in the Motorola SB6580. I also turned off the wireless since I got a better wireless N router setup as an access point.
Hope this help and let us know if this works for you. |

I believe customer owned modems are not permitted with wideband service. Its very easy to set the modem up to pass through as already explained.
Call Tier 3 again.

henryf join:2002-03-23 Richardson, TX | reply to jibesh101 Hey, neat. I will try that. I had tried turning off NAPT but then got no IP address - but I did not understand that I could turn that off, enable passthrough, and pass my one IP back!
I will totally try that tonight. Motorola is the one who told me that I could not passthrough without a 2nd IP to pass. But I get what you are saying and I know what NAPT is... I just didn't put it all together in that the modem was being told to work with many IPs and pass back, etc.
Cool! Will let you know! I have high hopes! |

henryf join:2002-03-23 Richardson, TX | reply to jibesh101 That fixed it for me, thanks! You know... The whole drill is to disable NAPT, enable RG Passthrough, enter your router's WAN MAC into the passthrough list (maybe that is an optional step), REBOOT the cable modem to use the new MAC.
I skipped one step or another durring early testing and ended up on the wrong road. Thanks for the help! I am running the 6580 as a passthrough device now with the wireless disabled, etc. A glorified 6120
