I have no qualms about mocking AT&T's new capped data plans. They make what are otherwise great phones into useless bricks. I will gladly and cheerfully take every opportunity to trash these plans. If it makes a casual reader think twice about signing up for such a plan, then so much the better. -- "Net Neutrality" zealots - the people you can thank for your capped Internet service. |

If you are a new customer, you can no longer get an unlimited data plan from AT&T. You are stuck with one of those useless capped data plans. Your only choice is to either grin and bear it or do without.
There is nothing wrong with pointing out these facts so that people who otherwise may not be aware of them are in the know. -- "Net Neutrality" zealots - the people you can thank for your capped Internet service. |

So yeah, you misrepresent the facts. |

deadzonedPremium join:2005-04-13 Baton Rouge, LA | Actually, the truth is that even though they called that plan "Unlimited" it wasn't really as it was capped at 5GB.
So, in actuality, At&t has never had unlimited data. |

| On the Iphone the plans were truly uncapped, the rest of the plans where capped at 5GB, I myself am almost always on wifi and I've dropped down to the 200mb plan without an issue, and saving $15 a month, even when i was heavily streaming video I never went over 1 gb, while I agree the $20 tethering charge is ridiculous the reality is that a 2GB plan is more than enough for the vast majority of people and will be for quite awhile, most people aren't glued to their smartphones 24/7 and calling a capped plan useless is a gross exaggeration |

Z80APremium join:2009-11-23 1 edit | reply to deadzoned iPhone plans weren't capped. Other plans like LaptopConnect were capped but they were not advertised as Unlimited.
And for those millions who were on unlimited plans, they still aren't capped. |

You can't honestly think a 2GB cap is in any way reasonable, when an hour of 720p recording (which the iPhone 4 is notably capable of doing) would consume about that much already. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

| I never said I did, I was commenting that the same poster says practically the same thing on any AT&T thread.
For new customers, yes it stinks for some. But I thought I saw today that 75% of the phones sold were upgrades.
If that is the case that is a lot of people on the old plan. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

 | reply to C0deZer0 The quantity of bullshit that you send out of your phone may in fact use up the cap. 720p recording has nothing to do with use of 3G. It is true if you are planning to use your phone to transmit large quantities of HD video that you will go over the cap and have to pay for more bandwidth. However that is the point.
Do you have some carrier that can handle all the users doing that sort of usage? |
