torrent traffic seems to cap at 500 kB/S???

When I run a test at speedtest.net I'm getting Mb/s as seen here:
I've tested with multiple torrents and no matter how many seeds there are my torrent traffic seems capped at 500kB/s... It seemed like before I left for the summer I was getting in the MB/sec range at least 1.6 etc. This seems suspect when it it reaches 500 and peaks over then seems to settles back down to around 500kB/s again. Almost like there was some kind of traffic shaping going on. I was gone over the winter and just noticed this since being back in late may. Has anyone else noticed this? Also I understand that there a new 10 Meg option... with a new adsl modem? How has that been working out for zoometown people. If there is some traffic shaping for torrent traffic capped at 500kB/s then there's no reason to pay for the 10 Meg option.

I ran diffprobe and it doesn't look like CincyBell is running any traffic shapers and it tested to the bandwidth basically the same as speedtest.net!
Props to zoomtown for not messing around with our bandwidth :}

DiffProbe beta release. October 2009. Build 1002.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 4.71.251.149.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 664 Kbps.
Downstream: 4148 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 634 Kbps.

Downstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 4088 Kbps.

Still not sure about why I'm stuck at 500 Kbps down with torrent but it must be my machines config for just coincidence the swarm keeps only giving up a half meg to me down.

Based on what you say I think you're confusing bits vs bytes. You have the 5 megabit service and with the DSL overhead you get a bit less (as your speed test shows: 4.31 megabits/s). You say your torrent download speed tops out around 500kB/s. That's about right because that's kilobytes, not kilobits. 4.31 megabits translates to ~551 kilobytes. If you were topping out at 500 kilobits you'd only only be seeing speeds of ~62 kilobytes.

Haven't heard of any 10 megabit option for CBT DSL, but unless you live practically next to your central office you'll never get that speed.

I guess I could have been using my capitalization wrong but at my house in Scottsdale Arizona on Cox cable I would get up into 1.6 megabits range with my total torrent download speed. Before I left for this last winter my zoomtown speed also downloading torrents I was breaking up into 1.x megabit range... now since being back it seems my total download speed from the swarm won't top 500 megabits per second. I'll keep working on this and I greatly appreciate your response. I guess maybe the only way to get the 10 meg speeds now is the new fiber option through Cincinnati bell but it's not avail. to me here in Loveland 45140 yet.

Still looks like you're confusing bits vs bytes. Below is a link that may help understand it better.

I think you had it right with the 500KB/s (kilobytes/s) speed. That's pretty close to the max you'll get with your connection. If you're wanting speeds over 1MB/s (megabyte/s) you'll have to either wait for CBT fiber to be available or switch to Time Warner cable.
