[ TV] FibeTV is a complete joke!

Sorry guys you get my rant. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I live in the beaches, I know for a fact my CO is the Main Street CO which everyone on here says supports FibeTV. I put my address on their website last Tuesday and Wednesday Bell called me from Montreal telling me good news I qualify for FibeTV that I'm one of the few etc etc. She gives me 1-866-797-8686 in case I have to call back which I said would be better since I wanted to review pricing and plans. Thursday was Canada day, so I called back Friday morning.

When you call that number it says Welcome to Bell FibeTV and Bell Entertainment Service etc etc, says press 1 to order. The guy answers the phone saying FibeTV how can I help you etc. He checks everything and says I qualify and can get it. Tells me I can't keep my Fibe 12 have to get 6, so I said let's forget it for now I need to talk to my partner first and so on.

I wait an hour or so, decide let's do it so I call back get someone else who ALSO says I can get it (person number 3 that says I can get it). This time he tells me there's a $259 install fee, that on 2 year agreement I get $200 off, but if I want the PVR free because I only have Internet with Bell, the PVR is only free 1 year. I say fine let's do it but he tells me no, can't do 2 year contract to get the $200 off but PVR 1 year, he says max I can do is 1 year so I say $159 for install forget it.

I call back awhile later talk to the first person again, he says the other guy was wrong that I can do 2 years get $200 off, and PVR for 1 year so I say great lets do it. He says he has to transfer me to sales who will put the order through. We wait on hold 35 minutes he gives me their number to call back to order later.

Fine no problem. I call them right now, it's the standard Bell phone number. The girl at least knows what FibeTV is, but of course she checks, tells me it's not available in my area!!! I tell her Bell called me and told me it was and 3 other people told me it was too. She checks with a supervisor who also says no it's not available and that it's probably because I'm in a house. I tell her that makes no sense that people in the area here online have it as well. She tells me her team is the ONLY team that deals with it. I told her 4 other people at Bell told me I could get it, and she then gives me her 800 number saying that's the only number that handles it. I give her the 1-866-797-8686 number which she says she's never heard of and isn't for FibeTV. I tell her it's ridiculous that Bell gave me it and that that number is also on their website. She puts me on hold and calls it, comes back 10 mins later saying it's an "old" number even though it says "Thanks for calling Bell FibeTV and Bell Entertainment Service". She says the girl there told her it wasn't available either but that she'd check with marketing to see if I could get it and would call me back tonight.

I hung up, called the number there back again for FibeTv, guy answers saying BellTV etc etc. I ask if he knows anything about FibeTV and he says no that he only handles satellite. so I just hung up, I'm so frustrated I can't believe I'm fighting so much to get a service from a company, when it should be the other way around. It's SO ridiculous!

Re: [ TV] FibeTV is a complete joke!

Okay so called back three more times, first person said I could get it, while transferring me to the order department they hung up on me. Called again the guy checked said with my home phone # it says I can get it, but my address says I can't get it, and my dry loop # says I can't get it. He says he'll look into it and call me back, so he just called back and said I definitely cannot get it.

Not sure where people get that the Main Street CO is the one that has it, I live right at Main and Gerrard, I could walk to that CO and be back home in 5 minutes.

Funny thing was he told me to go to www.bell.ca/fibetv and enter my address and they'll check if I can get it and will call me if it is. Told him I did that last week, that's what started this whole process.

If there's anyone on here that lives in the upper beaches area around main/gerrard and has FibeTV please let me know, I still think they're wrong. Long story short, when I moved here over 3 years ago, Bell kept saying I couldn't get Internet because my address says no. I finally got a Bell phone line installed here and as soon as I did, they'd check with that # and it would show all the services I could get, but address nothing. 3 months ago I ported the number to Primus VoIP since I don't use it at all, and so Bell gave me a dry loop number. The guy at Bell said my old # shows I can get FibeTV but address says no, and dryloop # says no. Funny thing, on bell.ca if I just click Internet availability, my dry loop # there says not available, and my address also says they can't verify it, but if I use my now Primus (former Bell) #, it says I can get up to Fibe 25 lol. I don't really care if I have to wait awhile to get the service, I just don't want to miss out on the 50% off the receivers deal is all. Sigh!

You have the same problem as me.

I can throw stones out of my windows and hit that CO building.

But sadly, I can't get FibeTV, I call over fifty times, but I been walking next door and playing with my next door friends FibeTV, almost everyone on my block has it but me.

The problem is I was the first with Fibe25, once you have anything faster then Fibe6 in their database, you get REMOVED from the FibeTV OK database.

My friend a few houses down from me also has the same problem, can't order FibeTV, even tho everyone he talks to claims he can get it, he has the same problem he currently has Fibe25.

Silly thing is, once you get FibeTV you still have 25meg internet, just only you pay for the Fibe6, but as you turn on more TV's your 25meg goes down about 5megs per TV on. -- The only thing is you get the 4meg UP speed instead of the 7meg UP with Fibe25.

Hopefully someday Bell will fix up their stupid DATABASE program, I even got the call from Montreal also, telling me I was good to go, and even the fancy welcome to the world of FibeTV in my mailbox, but still stuck with Fibe25 and doing the illegal download way to get my TV viewing in.

Oh so frustrating! I have Fibe 12 right now so that sounds like that would make sense too. I've called over 10 times at least as well. It wasn't until this morning that they said I couldn't get it. Every other time I was more calling for info, they'd check, say I could get it but then say something like $259 for install so I'd hold off. What he told me to try today was call the dry loop office tomorrow and have them check if I can get IPTV on the line since his system doesn't show it. He then said as well he'd check more things and call me back. He called 15 mins later saying I can't get it. I might still try calling tomorrow for fun to see what they say. I don't really care if I have to wait a bit to get it, it's more the 50% off the receivers that I liked since I have so many here. I don't want to pay to rent them but $199 a pop is expensive so wanted to take advantage of the $99 deal.

I actually put my address in the website again just to see if Montreal calls me again tomorrow. If they do I'm going to tell them to place the order right then, but I think all they do is transfer you to the standard FibeTV number that I keep calling anyway who's just going to give the same thing.

I have a condo downtown which also got the flyer saying it's available. I know people with BES in the building as well. I actually have Fibe25 at the condo and should call to see if they say it's available there or not. That's why it's so frustrating, I have satellite and Fibe12 at home, and then at my condo I have Fibe25 and BellTV for condos, so around $250 a month in Bell services but they don't care to help you. I'm actually cancelling the Fibe25 tomorrow because I wasn't sure if I needed it and this just turned me off so much anyway lol.

As for my experience, I couldn't get fibe 25 because I didn't had a land line with Bell... and the database really doesn't work well with addresses or if you don't have a land line with Bell.

Luckily for me, I work for Bell and I knew I could get it... just needed to trick the system and qualify my line on another phone number. And once I had my dry loop installed, only then did it qualify for fibe 25.

So, even though I know I don't qualify for FibeTV, I subscrided to this »fibetv.bell.ca/en/signup/ and eventually got a call from someone saying exactly what I knew, that it wasn't available for me (and my area) and it would only be a matter of time. BTW, I live in Montreal, South-West region.

Like I said, in so many other threads to you, Garyopa, it has nothing to do with your Fibe 25... Are you even reading me?

People think because they're very close from a CO that they can get Fibe 25 or Fibe TV. Well, let me just say this... I haven't seen anybody connected to a CO getting Fibe 25. Everybody I've seen with fibe 25 are connected to Remotes. For sure I haven't tested everybody on Fibe 25, but it's just something I want to trow out there.

Also, this is not even a hard launch, it's a very slow and soft launch, going from one area at a time, for now.

And, can someone tell me why, people are so desperate to get FibeTV... I'm really curious as to what makes people want to get this.
Let's say I have satellite with Bell, and Fibe 25... Why would I want FibeTV? Is it cheaper? Is the image quality that better? What is it?
Just for the heck of it... people should know, if you have a problem with your internet, get ready to have a problem with FibeTV as well... and vice versa.

Hey Kovy,

I want it because yes it's much cheaper. Fibe25 plus Satellite is really expensive compared to FibeTV. I have satellite with 4 Theme Packs. FibeTV is $5 more but gives me 7 theme packs, and all FibeTV plans include the Hd versions too, so for example I have A&E, Discovery etc right now but I'd have to pay even more to get the HD versions.

The only reason I want it so badly right now is because I'm finishing my basement and will need to buy another HD satellite receiver soon which I'd rather avoid if I'm getting FibeTV. Also the fact that it's 50% off all receivers right now makes it much more appealing as well.

The difference with me though is the call from Montreal said I could get it, and the people at Bell keep saying I can get it too when they use my previous Bell # that I just ported to Primus. It's when they use my dry loop number or my address it says not available, but when I try either of those on bell.ca to see if I can even get internet on those they both say unavailable.

I'm just pretty confident that had I not ported my Bell number to Primus 2 months ago, that I'd be able to get FibeTV, since that number shows it is available.

Ok, so in your case, FibeTV seems the better deal price wise... which I believe you've made enough research to get the real story.

Now, if you really want to prove all your doubts... Your best and almost only option would be to get a phone number from a neighbors who has a land line with Bell.
But like I said... A dry loop qualify exactly like a Bell land line...it's the same thing.

Now, what I don't understand is, how did your old number qualified for FibeTV, when FibeTV was only a rumor back then...I know Fibe 25 was available back then and maybe the agent you talked to said in his head Fibe25=FibeTV. Or if you did a search with the Bell site, well... I wouldn't even touch that with a 10 foot pole, because it seems to work differently from day to day. I just check with my phone number and it says "We were unable to confirm which services are available" I even heard stories here, people were saying Fibe 25 was available and the very next day it wasn't.

What I can do, if you wish, with your Dry loop phone number... do a search to see who has DSL in your terminal and qualify them to see if they qualify for FibeTV... or you can ask direct forum support if you prefer.

Hey thanks again for the reply. I don't mean that my old number qualified back then. Like I got my Bell land line maybe 2 years ago, 416-686-XXXX which I ported to Primus maybe 2-3 months ago. On the phone today with the FibeTV people, I still use that phone # for them to bring up my account since they seem to have difficulty otherwise. Since it's still my home phone # just with Primus, I guess it still comes up in your system. Anyway, when they checked that number today and Friday it shows I can get FibeTV. If they check my address, or my dry loop number both those show I can't get FibeTV.

My thing is if I go to bell.ca and click internet and check availablility, if I use my address it says they can't validate my address. If I use my dry loop # it says they can't validate what services are available, but if I use my old 416-686-XXXX Bell line which is now Primus, it shows up to Fibe 25 available. Keep in mind, Primus is voip, so only the number went to them, the physical line into my home is still Bell with my internet on it.

If you wanted to check the dry loop as mentioned that would be greatly appreciated. Let me send you a private message with the info, thanks so much!!

Omg I GOT IT FINALLY!

Finally finally finally!!!! So last night they kept saying no go. So this morning I call the dry loop office and ask if I can get IPTV. He checks says YES you can definitely get it. I say amazing they said you can place the order, he says no I can't of course. Has to transfer me which he does. This guy was very helpful says he'll do it. He finds out I have satellite now and says that's an upgrade so he can't do it someone else has to. Another 25 minute hold and someone else comes on from BellTV. I explain everything to him, he says he just does Satellite and that I have to call the IPTV department. I'm ready to lose it but he says he'll talk to his manager, puts me on hold around 20 mins then just hangs up on me!!!

I call the FibeTV department again the 1-866-797-8686 (know it by heart now). I explain everything to him, I say they told me my dryloop can get it. He asks the number checks and says YES I can get it. No idea why some people say yes some say no. He says someone else has to place the order but he promises he'll stay on the line and explain it all to them.

Anyway the guy comes on, says yes I can get it and he'll place the order. The only thing is you can't rent the PVR and buy the other receivers. It's rent all or buy all so I said let's just rent them all.

My install is next Monday afternoon. Funny thing is when I hung up I had a new voicemail, from some girl at Bell FibeTV apologizing for all my issues and saying to call her back that her team can assist me. Was some other 800 number I've never heard of before. Anyway, after all this I finally will have it lol.

Considering how long Bell fiddled with the IPTV trials, you'd think that at launch time, they would have had the ability to tell customers reliably whether they can or can't get it.

Unless these are isolated cases, Bell will lose a lot of potential customers, an risk getting a lot of bad publicity of customers sign contracts to only later find out that they can't get it.

Yeah honestly, if Rogers had the same service I would have just walked. They're lucky it's unique here because this was really the most ridiculous thing I've done having to fight to get a service from a company!

Only disappointing thing is having to buy all receivers or rent them all. Really wanted to take advantage of getting the $99 HD receivers but $249 for the PVR is a bit much.

Is it really a launch time? I haven't seen any adds... and this is Bell, which does add for anything.

Yeah it def isn't really a launch. I live in the beaches and have a condo downtown. When I was dt last week I got the flyer made out to me saying FibeTV is here and available in my building. I went on their website and that's where it says to enter my address to be notified when it's available so that's where I put my house address in and they called me the next day saying I could get it. So yeah in all fairness it's not like they sent me a flyer here or anything saying join now, but they did call me saying I could get it.

Just realizing, it says first month you get all programming to experience it all. They never asked what plan or package I wanted to sign up for when I joined. Do they just start you at the basic one for the month then you pick later or something? Never had to tell anyone the 7 theme packs or anything I wanted.

Oh by the way, when the people from FibeTV called and left me 2 voicemails today, the second time she said "I'm glad to see your order got placed here I apologize for all the issues" She also said for anything FibeTV to ALWAYS call 1-866-635-8375 which is a new number to me. So that might help someone out in the future. She said they're a very small team of a few people at that number and they are the FibeTV team. Hopefully that helps someone else out. Kovy did you call that number too?

I am from the other CA (California). In my opinion, I would be VERY VERY wary of how this will all turnout.

It seems that you had way too many conflicting answers for this turn out any way but screwed up.

I went through a similar thing with Charter cable in the LA area. Wanted to add high speed internet to my existing cable setup. It took six phone calls and much repeating of the problem (they enabled the HSI and disabled the cable TV) to get it straightened back out. Then, the first bill came...

I was promised ~$130, they charged $200. Many phone calls/emails later, they finally figured out that I was being over charged.

Your situation is ripe for a screw-up. I hope you have a backup plan for your internet needs (Netzero?).

Best of luck...

Well if it's like satellite, it's only after the tech installs everything that he will give you a number to call someone for selecting what you really want.

No, I didn't call... I just got Satellite with them... so the HD receiver cost me 100$... so if they want me to switch they would need to give me the HD receive for free or something good.

Does anyone know in terms of wiring when they connect via coax vs say Ethernet, can I change it myself later? I want to use Ethernet because I heard it's better and I'm wired for it, but my house is 3 years old and right now wired for Satellite so I have all good coax cable. Can just see them wanting to use the coax to make it easier for some reason. Wondering if I as a user can just switch it to Ethernet when they leave?

Ethernet is actually easier to wire up for them usually. If you want to do it on your own, that's easy too - just plug the STB's into the Cellpipe modem they provide you using ethernet. Typical switches should work too.
