| T1 help... Alright, the situation is like this. DSL is out of range as we are on a 30k foot telephone line. Cable stops a quarter of a mile down the road for no apparent reason, even more homes where it hasn't been run yet. I'm looking to get a T1 installed from Speakeasy, they say $279 a month for full T1, free installation, router is $599 but it's got a rebate that essentially makes it free as well. There's already a phone line with 2 pairs (with phone service using it ATM but that will be canceled) run from the utility poles to my home (50 feet or so). Seems expensive for a home I know, but I need it for work, especially the upload speeds/latency more importantly, massive 20mbps download speeds aren't my concern. My main questions are these....
1.) What other costs could incur from having this run to my house?
2.) Besides the router with a CSU/DSU, is there any other equipment that will be needed or is it just plain old LAN setup once the T1 hits the router?
3.) Once they do the install, is that all? I just hook my PC's up to the router and configure them on my LAN and the internet is up and rolling right then?
4.) Is there anything I can do to ease the install process and make it less problematic? I was already going to have a rack mounted on the same basement wall that the phone line/box is attached too on the outside, that way its a quick hole and a real short cable run from the phone line box to the router on the rack just inside the wall.
I know may seem like dumb questions but I've never messed with T1's before, always been residential connections and network administration in scenarios where the back haul was always someone else's responsibility other than mine at the time. Any input or suggestions is greatly appreciated. |

| Unless something has changed, they way you Interface with a Speakeasy T1 is the same as you would for their ADSL offerings: Plug your router into the LAN interface on the CSU/DSU, enter the correct WAN info on your router, and you're off. |

1.) What other costs could incur from having this run to my house? In theory none. The phone company is responsible for getting the T1 physically to you. They will install a smartjack that marks the end of their responsibility.

The router supplied by SpeakEasy/Covad is technically all you need. It has a 4-wire T1 interface (4 of them actually) and 2 ethernet interface. You'll probablly want a switch and a firewall of some kind -- a linksys wireless router will do, but the router itself (a Samsung Ubigate iBG1000) can do everything. However you might want something easier to deal with. (and won't knock you completely offline if you break it.)
