| Might come back to GWI After a couple years of Time Warner, and some recent routing and high latency issues, I may be headed back to GWI. I am thinking I'll get the 5/1 package again with local phone for $57+tax.
The thing is, I currently am serviced by Time Warner for phone and internet, and they disconnected my phone service at the NID. So, hopefully, I can get that reconnected myself to avoid the $50 installation fee.
They don't charge a number porting fee, do they?
Thanks! |

 | I used to have GWI and loved them! can't get them at my present location. they should not charge a port charge for new customer. |

1 edit | reply to wcnghj GWI wants to send somebody out to move the copper wires at the NID from the Time Warner box(no screws, just a snap connection to open/close) to the Fairpoint NID.
They won't charge for it and even after offering to do it myself they insisted. My home is 90 miles from GWI. It's a nice offer but they really don't need to travel for over three hours RT to do a two minute job. |

 | reply to wcnghj I am now back with GWI- and I did the switchover myself. I'm now able to ping Google in 23ms compared to 70ms with TW.

| reply to wcnghj I'm not surprised you're seeing a lot lower latency with GWI. It seems Time Warner's closest peering is in upstate New York, and beyond that a lot of data seems to go through Level3 in Cleveland, OH. That's quite a lengthy trip to start out with compared to GWI's peering in Boston. |
