[Signals] Major Packet Loss Every Night at 9PM On The Dot

For over a week now, I've been getting 80%-90% packet loss starting exactly at 9PM MST. I'm a Comcast business class customer with a Docsis 3.0 SMC modem. This packet loss will sometimes last until 8 or 9AM the next morning.

Looking at signals, during the problem I have:

Downstream Channel
Downstream Frequency 513.000000 MHz 519.000000 MHz 525.000000 MHz 531.000000 MHz
Lock Status Locked Locked Locked Locked
Modulation 256 QAM 256 QAM 256 QAM 256 QAM
Symbol Rate 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec
Downstream Power -8.823277 dBmV -7.518869 dBmV -8.258185 dBmV -5.397001 dBmV
SNR 35.779911 dB 36.386890 dB 32.154430 dB 15.653372 dB

Upstream Frequency 34400022 Hz
Lock Status Locked Not locked Not locked Not locked
Modulation 64QAM
Symbol Rate 5120 KSym/sec
Upstream Power 39.7500 dBmV
Channel ID 10

My upstream is consistent at 39 even when running normal. I've noticed that the 531mhz channel keeps going in and out during this problem. The downstream power is closer to 0 when the problem does not exist, but I hear the power strength shown above is in an acceptable range.

So far Comcast has replaced the modem, replaced all cable between the modem and the street. They have tried putting on a -6db tap because they said at one time it was too strong.

I just don't know where to go from here. I have the phone number for a local supervisor but they wont be in the office until Tues.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Could be a channel problem. You will need to wait for the supervisor for them to dispatch a Maintenance ticket for that.

Edit:

15.653372 dB

HUGE Problem on channel 4... You should not be down to 15 dB on the SNR if it is even sync'd.

Looks like the problem stopped earlier than before. Signals are looking good again:

Downstream Channel
Downstream Frequency 513.000000 MHz 519.000000 MHz 525.000000 MHz 531.000000 MHz
Lock Status Locked Locked Locked Locked
Modulation 256 QAM 256 QAM 256 QAM 256 QAM
Symbol Rate 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec 5.360537Msym/sec
Downstream Power -4.755634 dBmV -2.926667 dBmV -3.614631 dBmV -1.298836 dBmV
SNR 36.844463 dB 37.355988 dB 37.092701 dB 35.595078 dB

Just kind of strange it happens at 9PM every night.

there still shouldnt be 3.5 db of speration between docsis carriers....im thinkin the problem is still there....

This stuff appears to be happening all over. I cant be the only one that's noticing this.
In my case it starts at 8pm EST nightly, and cleared up around the same hours as you (8-9) the following day.

Makes me wonder what is going on.
They have replaced everything...and I mean everything from the pole to the inside the house. Also included a new pad up the street, and a new tap.

Only difference is, mine, and my neighbors have been going through this since the first or second week of June.

Hope they get to the problem for you. They have been out here weekly, and its still happening...but not as bad. But does still get packet loss and extremely sluggish results on the web.

Please let us know what they do that corrected it, when that happens. I really would like to know. Then I can suggest it to the techs that seem to be out here once or twice a week.

Of course I will post my findings in my thread when they are able to track it down and correct it.
A month of this is a long time for me.

You need to have someone from the local mtce dept check for an off-air carrier at the time the problem is occurring. Specifically, something is coming through on 531mhz that shouldn't be. It's very possible since it's time-based that a human is involved with the cause.

Well I'm not sure what happened, but for the last 2 nights it has not happened. The 531Mhz channel has been stable. All of my downstream channel powers have been very close to 0 at all times.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Since I haven't heard back from anyone yet on the issue, maybe they found something and fixed it.
