@comcast.net

TV Guide Network

Is there much of a point to this channel anymore? It seems like they even realize that times have changed and have begun to show programming (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ugly Betty, movies etc.).

Not gonna happen soon....

TV Guide Network is owned by "Lionsgate", a production company you may recognize from many of the movies you have ever watched. TV Guide, the magazine was owned by OpenGate Capitol. The magazine and the TV Station+website have been under different owners for many years now.

On June 1, 2010, TV Guide Magazine was finally shut down for good and the content, IP, and other faculties within the magazine are being transfered over to Lionsgate.

The TV Guide Network is more than scrolling text of what's on TV for those in hotels, with DTA's, hospitals, and other non IPG/EPG CPE; it is also Lionsgate free syndication channel. It charges next to nothing to be carried, as advertising rates are going well right now.

BUT there has to be a reason comcast is really keeping it on there listings, hell it aint even in the analog portion of the state now, it's digital and looks like ass btw. There is no point in it anymore. Those other 2 channels I mentioned are hell of alot better and would be better served.

You are correct, that reason is a form of a contract called a carriage agreement. They can't just pull it off because nobody watches.

Good info. Did not know they finally eliminated TV Guide magazine. Hope the idiot who decided to turn it from a listings magazine to People magazine lite is proud of his work. What a joke it became.

will the fact that rovi exited the guideworks venture have anything to do with tvguide channel or the future guides?
Will this allow comcast to develop something like time warner's or cox's guides?

Doesn't Rob Zombie own part of Lionsgate?

Does he? I know Universal sold his movie to Lionsgate when he finished it because they didn't want to release it...

No, Macrovision sold off the TV Guide Network (the tv channel) back in 2008, it is currently owned by Lionsgate. Rovi has no steak, control, or interest in TV Guide Network.

No, Comcast is developing Barcelona, the successor to the Tru2Way CE Aspen guide. Financial capitol from Rovi in this venture had it's influence long ago.

Why does it only show listings for the analog channels? I guess it it would be totally useless though to go through all 800 or so channels only showing 3 channels at a time. You'd have to wait forever if you're waiting for a particular channel. A digital only channel showing only analog channel listings. That's Comcast logic for ya.

Bring back Prevue Guide!

You mean this Prevue Guide? Clip is from December 1988.

Blue Ridge Cable has this Zap2It guide on Analog channel 97(I think).

It is not digital simulcast like the rest of the channels. You can tell by the fuzz. They play some classical music with this.

I've never seen this before anywhere but Blue Ridge.

Both of those preview guides are better than what we have here... which is NONE! And never have.

It was also fun to watch when the guide channel crashed (love the Prevue Guide music):

I liked it when they carried community messages on the prevue channel or what was called the guide channel before.

It would actually show them at the office typing in the messages as they did it.
