Re: Meanwhile, more LTE rumors

Sprint will stay with WiMax. It doesn't make sense for them to build out 43 markets and offer the 4g phone only to have to relaunch another LTE phone in all place of 0the WiMax's phones they plan on launching.

Sprint will be using WiMAX for the next year or 2 without question, but what is Sprint going to replace CDMA with? Will they really keep all their CDMA carriers (1.25 mhz) running, even thought they will be getting more and more empty? or will sprint cut the price of 3G service to fill the underutilized 3G system, the way they did with Nextel and Boost unlimited service?

And when will the sun set on GSM/CDMA in the USA? I believe ATT Wireless discontinued selling TDMA phones in 2003. TDMA ended just 5 years later. I can't use Verizon as a comparison since CDMA is just as old as TDMA, and still kicking. I highly doubt Verizon was selling any analog only phones in the 2000s or late 1990s.

Sprint and Tmobile never ended a cellphone technology.

So when will CDMA die? or does its spectral efficiency mean its going to be around for atleast another decade to serve voice users?

Japan already killed GSM. UTMS/HSDPA voice calls only there now.

Sprint will move to WiMax for everything. It only makes sense for them at this point. And as far as their CDMA network they can move that to WiMax as well. they'll work with HTC to do dual mode phones for voice and data and once they're set to do that they'll start pushing market after market, especially the ones that already have WiMax data.

As far as GSM here in the states. TMO and ATT are the only true national carriers of that and i don't see ATT nor TMO giving up that network anytime soon. TMO did try UTMS but never went all the way with those phones and network.
