Re: [psp] Sound but NO picture (intermittent problem) It sounds to me that you bought it from someone who added M33 software with a pandora battery. I have a similar PSP, but I don't have the issues you have.
You might be have a motherboard issue, they sometimes fail in the PSPs (My friend's PSP had the power socket fail on his mobo since it stopped accepting the AC adapter). Also, it could be an issue with the installation of the custom firmware.
One good resource for PSP general questions and modded PSP information is pspslimhacks.com I think is what it is. They have a lot of guides and people who are generally pretty helpful. I had a mod there (former or current, I think he's still current) help me out with my PSP questions. -- "Failure is just success rounded down."- Ryan North |

As to why someone would throw away a PSP, I can't say for certain, but it's very likely it had to do with the screen blacking out intermittently. The UMD drive was also misaligned and having trouble reading, and it's battery missing, so those things might have contributed.
I just bought a battery (the Sony extended life kit, 220 mAh) and it's now running off that, so I know that part of the PSP works. Opened it, cleaned it and repaired what I could. I still haven't tested it's memory slot though...looking for a place to buy an 8 or 16 GB duo stick. I might also try and get a replacement top half for the case, the screen lens is a bit scratched up.
I thought the screen glitch was hardware related so I opened up the PSP and reseated the screen. Didn't change anything. Oddly enough, I found a solution to the problem accidentally. If you hold down all the D-pad buttons at once while powering up the PSP (or even putting it in sleep mode and out again), the screen comes back. I'm suspecting it's a firmware related issue now.
Thanks for the site! I tried pspmod.com and only got minimal help, haven't been to the other.
Right now I just really want to find a memory stick, otherwise I'm pretty limited in terms of what I can do with the PSP. |
