Re: The review referenced doesn't state this is the best phone They both have their pluses and minuses. Droid X has better battery life and faster graphics. EVO has 4G, front facing cam and is a bit smaller. EVO battery life is probably comparable if 4G radio turned off.
I'm pretty satisfied with my EVO. Faster graphics would be nice but it's not like it's slow. I like that the EVO screen takes up most of the real estate of the phone. Am surprised to see new smartphones come out with a giant border around it, even new iPhone. Droid X is definitely larger yet has same screen size.
DroidX is definitely a top tier phone but the 'best' comes down to what you would use more, such as 4G or faster graphics. I'm able to fix EVO battery with larger battery. Can't add 4G or front cam to X. |

kudos:2 | I just picked up my DX. I can't compare to the EVO beyond specs, but so far I'm happy. Sprint's 4G is more marketing than anything right now IMO, and while I would've like to have seen a front facing camera in the DX, it's not a huge loss. To each their own. I'm still familiarizing myself, but so far, so good. |

Coverage isn't where it needs to be yet but is nice to have when tethering on the road where you can get it, really nice.
4G is currently mostly for data cards, tethering and alternative to cable modem at this time until more phone apps develop with 4G in mind. Not sure it's a big need for phones right now unless doing HQ video, which I don't do much of other than to show off.
There is one big plus for CDMA doing 4G... since 4G is a separate radio, you can talk and do data at same time. VZW is only player who can't do that now. |

Until Clear/Sprint turn up WiMax in more markets, 4G is marketing for a lot of people. When I click between 4G and 3G coverage maps on Sprint's site, the difference is negligible. I give it two or three years before 4G is more than marketing for most. |

1 edit | Yeah agree 'for most' but that's like saying ATT 3G is just marketing for non ATT 3G areas. Or VZ FIOS is just marketing since not all major markets have it.
I get WiMAX home, work and in between very solidly so it's not marketing for me. See your point though. |

Ashburn, VA | I get 4G in many areas that I frequent in Herndon/Reston, VA. In the 5 days since I have had my HTC EVO, I have used over 3GBs of data. I am finally putting my Slingbox to good use as I have been streaming the Tour de France, and now the British Open, in the mornings; while streaming Rhapsody or Slacker radio in the afternoons.
At this rate, I'm probably going to be directly responsible for Sprint imposing caps.  |

Go to Boy Genius as they show it will likely not brick. It has the same security as the first Droid which is rootable and allows for custom rom's. Now they claim the Droid X will be like the Milestone in that it can be rooted but no custom rom's. |

Ashburn, VA | The Herndon/Reston area was a test lab for 4G, and it works throughout most of Herndon and including the Reston Town Center. It is not officially listed anywhere that I can find.
It's a very localized 4G access. |
