2 edits | Was going to get it but it was pretty awkward I thought this phone was supposed to SHIP with 2.2 but the store said it would be a free update next month. Being an AT&T sub, I've heard that sort of story before and a month was more like a quarter or a year if ever.
And there is some overlay software that isn't Android. I'm not a current *droid user so I don't know what it was but not all the Android handsets they had were running it. It appeared to be a GUI for embedded software running ON android, why I dunno. I figured that you could customize it to remove all the bloatware but now it seems that modding the phone may brick it. The phone in just going through the menus seemed sluggish. I was disappointed. I guess it is back to doing more research to pick a different handset.
Looks-wise the big screen was nice but the rest of it reminded me of those 90's Pontiacs with all the bolt on skirts, spoilers and stuff. -- "Our goal (was to make) a billion phones Flash-enabled by 2010...We're actually going to get 1 billion Flash-enabled phones by 2009." -Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch in Nov 2008.

It's some sort of version of Moto's Blur. Previous versions were fairly obnoxious, whereas this one doesn't appear to be...at least it hasn't bothered me in the less than 24 hrs that I've had the DX.said by Z80A:I figured that you could customize it to remove all the bloatware but now it seems that modding the phone may brick it. I'll believe the FUD regarding the eFuse when I read about respected members of respected dev teams returning their bricks. Until then....said by Z80A:The phone in just going through the menus seemed sluggish. If you kill some of the widgets and other processes, it helps. I'm looking forward to the speed boost that Froyo brings and the inevitable root that will let me clear out more bloat.
Screen size is nice. Looks-wise, I think it's ok (I wouldn't call it a Pontiac Sunfire). The camera bump is ok. Personally, I would've made the thickness uniform, even if it was slightly thicker throughout. Then again, it's a mobile wireless device that I'll use for messaging, voice, and accessing resources on the Internet....I'm not too concerned about the looks. If I was, I would've purchased an iPhone.

As far as 90's GM, I was thinking a 1996 Grand Am.

eFuse is the same as on Milestone and is not loaded with the purpose of preventing a consumer device from functioning So the main fear now is that you won't be able to load custom ROMs, which personally I couldn't care less about. »www.droid-life.com/2010/07/16/mo···blow-up/

Personally, I like the idea of more space for hardware that's not a physical keyboard. To each their own though.

But I'm thinking of only a week or two, long enough for any problems to surface that would brick the phone or stop me from farting around with it. -- "Our goal (was to make) a billion phones Flash-enabled by 2010...We're actually going to get 1 billion Flash-enabled phones by 2009." -Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch in Nov 2008.
