| UVERSE up while landline down? Well I am not really understanding what's going on but since I have had UVERSE installed this is the second time my phone line has gone down. Now all my land phone's say extension in use and when I pick up the phone all I hear is a loud buzzing noise.
I called repair and they said their system's detected a short on the line. The odd thing is my UVERSE TV and Internet are just fine, as well as my speed's. The SLC96 my phone line is being terminated on is right next to the VRAD providing my UVERSE. Is this AT&T's subtle way about telling me to switch to UVERSE Digital voice? If so I don't like it nor do I trust it because we need reliable 911 and also for Broadview Security.

| I had that problem for the longest time, but luckily for the most part the short on my line didn't make the phone stay off the hook. Sometimes the phone would "trip" when people called and it would either hang up on them, or give them horrible static. Mostly the phone would just get terrible static to the point where I couldn't hear the person on the other end.
Basically all I could do was keep calling AT&T a million times and hope they'd fix it, as the problem was off and on. U-verse Internet/TV unaffected.
Eventually they switched my pair from the crossbox, and so far it's much better, but I have heard mild static on the phone once after bad rain/storm, but it hasn't come back since. That was a couple of months ago.
All I can say is call AT&T and make them fix it. I did a LOT of calling to AT&T and I will continue to do so if it comes back. I'll make them come out once a day if I have to haha.
As for their VoIP there's no way I'm switching to that I've heard too many horror stories, plus I don't want to worry about battery backup on the RG or anything. POTS (landline) is much more reliable, for the most part. |

 | reply to iLive4Fusion The dial tone problem was probably before the VRAD, so there was a good Uverse signal to the Nid and you still have service. Initially the dial tone comes into the incoming side of the crossbox, then jumpered to the VRAD, then jumpered back to outgoing side to the line going to your house.
Had a similar thing happen when my POTS line went dead at the crossbox, still had all Uverse services. A link to what happened: »utalk.att.com/t5/Equipment/How-A···g#M16731

| reply to iLive4Fusion Hmm. This seem's like a common problem, they said it's going to be 8 day's before a tech can come out to repair .
Anyway's, until then I don't think my UVERSE is being affected at all. Are these good line stat's for UVERSE?

 | reply to iLive4Fusion I'd say you got just barely enough headroom for the 32/5M profile; although I'd say your line is pretty quiet looking at the attenuation and upstream power output of -1.1dbm

Everything from the gauge of the wire, health of the cable, bridge taps, grounding, etc. You'd have to ask the person who comes to fix your line to check for any loop issues. -- Tom |

| reply to iLive4Fusion Being close to the VRAD physically means nothing.
e.g. VRAD across the street. That's close right? Well the VRAD line might go all the way down to the end of your street past 9 houses on the other side, then go across, then come all the way back past 9 houses to your location. |

 | SomeJoe's Uverse realtime.exe will give a very good estimation of your distance from the VRAD. He had an initial algorhythm in an earlier version, but got feedback from us users, he tweaked that, now mine is right on 400', I've walked it at just about 400'.
