Re: [E-Mail] smtp.rcn.com suddenly not working for me

Hey I got a note back from Chris who runs our email platform. You should turn on 'smtp authentication' and that will probably resolve your issue. Without having auth turned on your likely running into a restriction of some form or another.

I'm responding back to the thread because well we'd like everyone who uses a mail client to do smtp auth

For OSX (sorry can't point it out on windows if in mail preferences select the RCN email account (or the others for the other domains) and select the bottom smtp server list and "edit list"

Hit the advanced button.
"use default ports"
auth type password
username
password

I can probably dig up instructions on any other client but really it's probably easy to track down.

Ah, OK, thanks, Bryan! Do you know who I can talk to to find out what my user name/password is for smtp authentication? I haven't been using an @rcn.com e-mail address.

That's something the call center would have to help you with because of the account verifications and what not that have to happen.

That seems to have solved it! Thank you. I'm not sure why I suddenly needed to change to smtp authentication, but I'm very glad it's working.
