Re: Best 30 inch 2560x1600 Monitor? said by Gbcue:said by Chillin:Just ordered the new HP ZR30w. I will let you guys know how good it is. Samsung is in a box heading for repair. I was just about to recommend that one, after seeing Maximum PC's reviews on it. As a matter of fact, I was looking to buy that one too, but it lacks inputs like HDMI... Ive never needed a HDMI for a computer monitor so that one didn't bother me. But from what I read its a really nice monitor. I hope so, wasn't cheap! -- Graphic Disorder |

So generally speaking, getting a high end monitor having a resoloution above 1080 doesn't seem to be a real benefit.
I use DispalyPort and DL-DVI/D for my resoloutions. -- ---Barney |

HDMI v1.3 doubled the frequency to attain higher resolutions without adding the second link. Monitors that don't support the later standards or HDMI drawn from single link DVI will be limited to 1920x1200. Extra inputs are nice for all your toys but your computer will be connected with DVI to get 2560x1600.
From what I've read the Dell 3007WFP is an excellent monitor until you've used a 3008WFP. Then the 3007WFP looks trashy.
The Samsung 305T is a nice monitor. I use the Gateway XHD3000 which uses the same panel and has the same problem with the Altera BGA chip breaking solder joints. The soldering is flawed and the cooling is insufficient so it doesn't matter how many times you send it in for warranty it will fail eventually. There are eBay claims that there are "new" boards with the flaw fixed but I don't believe them. When the warranty runs out you can send the faulty board into a reball service and if they do the job right it shouldn't ever bother you again.
nVidia cards starting with the GeForce 8600 GTS and ATI x1300 support dual link DVI. Don't expect to game at 2560x1600 unless you have a top of the line video card. 3D rendering a 128MB frame buffer 60 times per second takes some serious horsepower. With 3D web demos I can size the video on my GeForce 8600 GTS up to about 1680x1050 before the demo goes foobar. |

Its very nice, it was honestly very hard to get color calibrated though, in fact still perfecting that. I am happy with it though. My Samsung is already on its way back to me from being fixed. I will have dual 30's then which I look forward to, been using a Dell as a secndary (24 inch) and not real fond of it. -- Graphic Disorder |
