[ Extreme] Rogers Extreme cap dropping from 95GB to 80GB?

I don't know if this was discussed anywhere (I did a search »/nsearch?board···&q=80+gb), so I'm asking.

I was told that after July 21 the cap for the extreme if you didn't sign up by then will drop to 80 gb a month. Was hoping to get some confirmation here, thanks.

Yes, this is in response to netflix coming to canada soon. The cap will be lowered for all tiers.

Rumors yes but from a good source.

This is going to be like they had with Ultra-lite and 60GB cap - at first it was "if you signed up before..." song, then you get an envelope with a letter saying they are dropping all users to lower cap.

If the 95->80Gb cap drop is true, then this strengthens Teksavvy's product (and yeah, I know, the feed still uses Rogers equipment, in whole or in part - doesn't really matter).

Rogers will loose potential future customers and quite possibly existing customers hand-over-fist, because their product will be inferior in price and quantity.

Since I started mentioning Teksavvy to other people, I've managed to stir up quite the interest.

Yay - Netflix is coming to Canada!

What in the world is Rogers thinking? Seriously, this is bizarre?

Express | Extreme | Extreme Plus
$46.99 | $59.99 | $69.99
10mbit | 10mbit | 25mbit
0.5mbit | 1mbit | 1mbit
60gb | 80gb | 125gb

So for $13 you're only getting 0.5mbit additional upload, and 20gb transfer. But if you spend a further $10, you get an additional 15mbit download speed - more than double - plus an additional 45gb transfer allowance. Extreme is being priced into "no one in their right mind would choose this" territory.

I'm the OP, had to fish out my previous login information

I just signed up for extreme a couple weeks ago because I was constantly going over the cap. I wonder how long it will take before they push all caps lower.

Edit: just noticed on the link that Lite also gets dropped 10 GB

And a new ultimate tier at 175 GB a month. Wonder the price for that.

Heh, even bigger news, Lite is going from 25gb to 15gb cap. That's 40% less service for the same great price of $35.99.

Teksavvy standard DSL at 5mbit download (66% faster), 800kbit upload (213% faster)) and 200gb cap (1233% more) seems like a better deal for $4 less.

I double posted, but there's a new ultimate tier as well at 175 gb on the image. Was that known before?

Yes, Ultimate came out at the same time as Extreme Plus.

Edit: or should I say the 50mbit/175gb Ultimate came out at the same time as the 25mbit/125gb Extreme Plus was revealed.

ah yes it was, makes it easy to guess who wasn't paying attention. I should be more careful.

Thanks.

The funny part is this is a perfectly reasonable conclusion.

Well, with all HST taxes being imposed on Internet, and now this bandwidth downgrade - surely makes it a nice surprise. I am canceling tomorrow.

It's only for new subscribers.

If you look at the other thread you will see that downstream for Extreme is being bumped to 15Mbits starting tomorrow.

Still a rip off, if you ask me.

I was their subscriber since 2005. It was 60 GB for Ultra-Lite. Then they downgraded to 2GB. But I was kept with 60.
Then some time later they sent me a notice that 60 GB is going away. So I either stick with 2 or "upgrade".
I upgraded to Lite. Then HST came, saying internet will be 40+, that's for 25GB. Not happy.
This 15 GB crap is last straw.
I am calling tomorrow. I have unlimited access in school, I can take my laptop and have access for free. Unlimited.

If Rogers was reasonable, then I would keep it - 15GB is unreasonable. Goodbye Rogers.
