Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention I honestly feel that Blizzard should make it so that everybody has to get an authenticator. If you get hacked and you did not have an authenticator attached to your account then they cannot return your items. imho -- Bite my shiny metal ass!! |

KilroyPremium,MVM join:2002-11-21 Ann Arbor, MI | reply to Mike I have to add, change the password of the e-mail account used for WoW. Preferable to something different than your WoW account. I highly recommend LastPass, it is available in both free and paid versions. It makes it easy to have different complex passwords for all web sites.
While on vacation I accessed my WoW account and it was disabled since I was using it in a very different place. I was informed that an e-mail had been sent to me with instructions to change my password. One would assume that a hacker would come up against the same issue and they would need access to your e-mail account to complete the hack. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

Anyone who has had their credit card # understands what I am getting at--whether it is a credit card processing server's back end getting hacked, or someone cracking into Blizzard's database (recently happened to DSLR, Sony, Lastpass, State of Texas, etc.), that second factor of authentication is all that may stand between a hacker and access to your account.
It's folly to think that you have to do something "stupid" to get hacked. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention It could be as simple as walking around Org/SW wearing highend gear or saying something specific in trade chat that could garner attention enough to get you hacked.
You saying you never say anything in trade? Or run around the main cities naked?
Being ignorant is nothing to be proud of. Simple. |

iPhone Mobile Authenticator App Update From MMO-Champion (June 4th, 2011):
iPhone Mobile Authenticator App Update Originally Posted by Lylirra (Blue Tracker / Official Forums) Due to an issue with the latest version of the iPhone Battle.net Mobile Authenticator application (version 1.3.0), we've temporarily taken down the app from the iTunes store. Please note that until the new version is made available, iPhone and iTouch users will be unable to download the app or upgrade it to the latest version.
If you use a non-iPhone version of the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, have not upgraded to version 1.3.0, or if you upgraded an existing version via iTunes but have not retrieved a new serial number, your Mobile Authenticator should be unaffected by this issue and continue to function as normal. Regardless if you retrieved the update or not, there is no security threat or risk associated with the Authenticator's ability to continue protecting your account while attached.

Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention Tips:
Ignore emails from "Blizzard" even more to accounts you don't even have battle net on (for example my hotmail account is not my battle net login at all and I receive "Blizzard" emails
The most common scam emails are:
- You are trying to sell your account, please verify ASAP or we will disable it (with bogus link) - World of Warcraft® Mount: Winged Guardianþ - this is a nice temptaion they offer a "free" mount in a raffle the link takes you to website in New Zealand associated with phishing and scams
If the sender is wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com add it to the junk mail or if you can completely block it the better.
You may think your authenticator will save you, perhaps your WoW account but they could steal other info on your PC. |

| reply to Mike In response to BG5150, and to add to someone else's post about just having some high end gear or saying something in Trade that really stands out. I hope you don't try to farm TK for the Phoenix mount or HLK for Invincible as that is a huge target for you to get hacked. Just saying....I know a couple that has happened to. But if you still don't have an authenticator, just make sure to keep your gear at 5-man heroics level blues and troll trade with "Anal [insert ability here]" and you should be free from hack attempts. -- I'm not loafing.
