Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention

Then you really don't understand computer security. You don't have to do stupid shit to get hacked.

Anyone who has had their credit card # understands what I am getting at--whether it is a credit card processing server's back end getting hacked, or someone cracking into Blizzard's database (recently happened to DSLR, Sony, Lastpass, State of Texas, etc.), that second factor of authentication is all that may stand between a hacker and access to your account.

It's folly to think that you have to do something "stupid" to get hacked.

Compared to what? Using two-factor authentication? :rolls eyes: and we wonder why IT professionals hate users.

Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention

It could be as simple as walking around Org/SW wearing highend gear or saying something specific in trade chat that could garner attention enough to get you hacked.

You saying you never say anything in trade? Or run around the main cities naked?

Being ignorant is nothing to be proud of. Simple.

iPhone Mobile Authenticator App Update

From MMO-Champion (June 4th, 2011):

iPhone Mobile Authenticator App Update

Please note that until the new version is made available, iPhone and iTouch users will be unable to download the app or upgrade it to the latest version.

If you use a non-iPhone version of the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, have not upgraded to version 1.3.0, or if you upgraded an existing version via iTunes but have not retrieved a new serial number, your Mobile Authenticator should be unaffected by this issue and continue to function as normal. Regardless if you retrieved the update or not, there is no security threat or risk associated with the Authenticator's ability to continue protecting your account while attached.

As always, if you are experiencing any issues with an Authenticator or Mobile Authenticator, we encourage you to contact our customer support staff for assistance - »us.battle.net/support/en/ticket/submit

Re: Ok so you got hacked / prevention

Tips:

Ignore emails from "Blizzard" even more to accounts you don't even have battle net on (for example my hotmail account is not my battle net login at all and I receive "Blizzard" emails

The most common scam emails are:

- You are trying to sell your account, please verify ASAP or we will disable it (with bogus link)
- World of Warcraft® Mount: Winged Guardianþ - this is a nice temptaion they offer a "free" mount in a raffle the link takes you to website in New Zealand associated with phishing and scams

If the sender is wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com add it to the junk mail or if you can completely block it the better.

You may think your authenticator will save you, perhaps your WoW account but they could steal other info on your PC.

In response to BG5150, and to add to someone else's post about just having some high end gear or saying something in Trade that really stands out. I hope you don't try to farm TK for the Phoenix mount or HLK for Invincible as that is a huge target for you to get hacked. Just saying....I know a couple that has happened to. But if you still don't have an authenticator, just make sure to keep your gear at 5-man heroics level blues and troll trade with "Anal [insert ability here]" and you should be free from hack attempts.

I logged on a minute ago, 2 of my 7 85's were on different realms...They didn't change the account password or anything so I went ahead and did that.

Curious if I should contact Blizzard now or wait a day or so and hope the person farms stuff (I just emailed them since I'm not in a huge hurry) and if they do is all that stuff left alone? maybe I shouldn't have changed my password so fast

This is exciting, considering not another living soul (other then 1 real life friend) knows what my battle.net email is, I don't sign up to any forums or sites with my battle.net email, my machine is clean (I have NOD), I never download questionable files or visit questionable sites

I did notice 1 of them got a feat of strength though, "Earned the feat of strength MiniZep Controller." so thats pretty cool

Well I don't say its clean, NOD and many spyware programs say it was/is clean.

I know exactly what happened and how my account was sort of compromised, Curse Client plain and simple. I've played this game since October 2010 and had zero issues but 2 days after installing that piece of shit to update addons for 4.3 my account was messed with...
I regularly reformat, I always check for viruses and no one knows my battle.net ID, I've never signed up to any site with my battle.net email, I don't download anything questionable (except curse client) I got rid of the client and changed my password and I'd bet any amount of cash my account will not be messed with again.

I just lost some gold and a ton of cloth but gained about 1100 whip tail and almost 1000 volatile life

And it seems I'm not alone, yeah...

When I logged on this morning it wouldn't take my password and I thought, "oh shit I got hacked somehow". I have used a authenticator for years but who knows these days. So I started a password reset and it went through with no problem. Checked my toons and money were fine so it appears it might have been a glitch on Bliz's end.

Would starting an email address that is only used for battle.net make it any safer?

Of course it would. I use my throw-away email address for registering at any WoW related site requiring an email address and a separate email account only for Blizzard. My throw-away account gets so many fake Blizzard emails, at least 10-12 everyday. I could see how dangerous it would be for anyone using a single email address for Blizzard and WoW related sites.

Every day I read this topic to get rid of the red "unread" mail icon, yet every day it comes back as unread with nothing new actually here. Is it just me?
