Re: Free UK DIDs from numbergroup Yesterday I ordered a DID, 03XXXXXXXXX, from Numbergroup.com. I found such a good easy-to-remember number I could not resist, it is impossible to forget the number.
As I mapped it to my VoIP.ms SIP address the invoice for my new 03 DID was £0.00 including VAT. Quite a good purchase.
My order confirmation said "We will be processing your order very soon". Today a few minutes ago a very nice and polite guy from Numbergroup called me on my new DID to inform me that my new DID now is connected and ready to use. That's really an excellent service considering I pay nothing for my new DID, I don't even pay for receiving calls.
The sound quality of the call was excellent, the best I ever experienced. It was so good sound quality it could compete with G722. Crystal clear sound with no background noise, no echo, no jitter. -- Linksys IP Phone SPA962 - Gigaset S685IP VoIP.ms - Callcentric - Localphone - Google Voice - Gigaset.net - Voxalot - Rebtel - MAXroam - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS |

I assume you already have ordered a DID. When it is free, why not.
In my order, I didn't put in any SIP Address to forward to and left it empty. I figured it probably has its own SIP server with a SIP Address that one can configure on his/her ATA device or a PBX system. -- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. |

| said by jeltz:Can you call it from voip.ms? I made several test calls to my Numbergroup DID from the following phone providers:
VoIP.ms Callcentric Localphone poivY F9 Musimi Telsome My Lebara cell phone
Calls from VoIP.ms produced a busy signal and calls from Callcentric resulted in dead air at both ends.
Calls from the other six providers went through without any problem.
However, my test revealed large differences in call quality among the six providers, ranging from poor to very good. -- Linksys IP Phone SPA962 - Gigaset S685IP VoIP.ms - Callcentric - Localphone - Google Voice - Gigaset.net - Voxalot - Rebtel - MAXroam - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS |

Callcentric was pretty quick to fix the rates for 03 numbers when I brought a problem to their attention. If you let them know about the problem you have making the call I suspect they would try to fix it fairly quickly. I don't (yet) use Callcentric and wasn't able to use them to make a test call.
I had opened a ticket about the voip.ms problem but they think that the number is "premium" and they don't route premium calls. So I just opened a feature request that they should support 03 numbers as normal "non-premium" numbers.

I believe it is the carriers used by VoIP.ms not knowing UK 03 numbers now are ordinary land-lines.
There are still carriers believing that the land-line number range +4610XXXXXXX is a cell phone number range and thus charging a lot higher rate than they should do.

| Thanks for the lead Arne. I signed up for one that will be easy to find also... with just a bit of thought. I had to change it from pointing to voip.ms (always busy) to a sip address on one of my local machines.
Beware! Jody did ask me where I found out about them, and I pointed to DSLr. |

brg join:2001-01-03 Chicago, IL kudos:1 | I had a good experience with these folks as well. Also found a very easy (for me) to remember "0330" number. Signed up, but their system was rejecting my US Zip code, and not "sticking" when I selected US as the country. So I put the correct info in the comments block. "Jackie Newman" emailed me almost immediately asking for my "direct to" DID or domain. I had her point the DID to my pbxes account, and she said she would edit-in my zip code and "US" rather than "UK." I was set up in mere minutes. Several test calls (from OneSuite in my case -- the only account capable of international calls [1.9 cents/min to the UK] that I had handy) worked great. Minimal delay, given the 8000-mile round trip. Kinda cool. So now my one correspondent in the UK can make free calls that reach me at home, or to my answering machine, or to any VM-to-email system that I'd choose to point it to.
(I assume someone has tried pointing the NumberGroup DID to a GV number?) |
