Re: Rate my ~$700 Gaming PC (newegg) What's the difference between the following drives?
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1CCA 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $284
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $274
The CCA model number costs $10 more. Anybody know what is different about it? I can afford an SSD now, and since money's going to be tight around Christmas, I'm worried about waiting. I'm still trying to decide between the 64GB and the 128GB. How important is it that games are stored on the SSD? Is it enough that the OS and applications are the only items on the SSD? I'm concerned about filling more than 80% of an SSD, as I've heard they suffer greatly in performance when this happens.
EDIT: Well I did a Google search that answered some of my questions. It looks like I'll be going 64GB for the OS and Applications.
quote: Studies have shown that Games don't really benefit from being on an SSD, except WoW.
Programs may not load faster if the OS isn't also installed on the SSD, as the *.dll files will still be on the drive with the OS, and not load faster.
Seriously, why wouldn't you install the OS on a SSD? Once you go SSD, you'll never go back!
But to answer your OP, NO. You could use it as a second drive.
And if it's a second drive, WIE will NOT regonize it. In WEI, it states primary drive only.

Source: » www.tomshardware.com/forum/260518-32-install Near as I can tell, the difference between the Crucial drives you listed is that one, the more expensive one, comes with a SATA to USB adaptor and maybe some additional software. | | Reviews:

| reply to MUT308 That's the problem with SSD's. Prices fluctuate so much and newer ones are released, it makes it hard to find a good time to buy one and know that you aren't throwing a lot of money away. Gotta pay more for more speed though I guess. Whatever you do, DO NOT get an OCZ SSD, had very bad experiences with them. | | MUT308Premium join:2001-02-07 Lawrence, KS | Well it looks like I'll be ordering the stuff in a few days, about September 1st. Going with the i7 930 or 950, most likely the 930. Same case, video card, PSU, RAM, and monitor as my last all-spec post. Instead of the ASUS P6X58D Premium mobo, I'm saving $80 and getting the ASUS P6X58D-E, which is nearly identical. Ironically, the Premium just went up in price on Newegg and the E just went down in price.
I'm going with the $144.99 2.5" Crucial 64GB SSD that Octavean posted at the bottom of page 2.
I bought an HDMI cable and a 2.5" to 3.5" bay adapter for the SSD. Do I need to buy a special kind of SATA cable to take advantage of SATA III with the SSD or are all SATA cables, even the ones I've had for years, the same? For that matter, I'm not even sure if my 2x1TB HDDs are even using the proper SATA cables.
I made a post on overclock.net to get some expert advice about whether I should even bother overclocking this baby. I know I'm buying OC-friendly components, but I don't really need all that power, at least not yet. I may upgrade the stock heatsinks/fans in the future when I'm interested in OCing, but for now I don't think it will be necessary. -- »will.mx | | Reviews:

| I have a core i7 920, and honestly I havent even been able to bring this to 50% load. I don't do any encoding, but I did run an Arma II mission with about 1300 AI fighting/vehicles and what not and that brought it to about 46%, hell playing COD4, WAW or MW2 only brings it to about 25% and that's with a lot running in the background too.....Only thing to go higher was Prime95 torture test. So honestly there isn't much of a reason to OC unless you do something that requires it or simply want to kick it up a notch and see how it performs I suppose. There really isn't much out there that these CPU's can't handle.
Your Mobo will come with SATA cables also, they all should be fine regardless. | |
