Re: [ps3] Standard DVD's on PS3

Okay that's really a stretch since most of the DVD owning public generally only buy from the region they live in. Also the PS3 can play all region PAL DVD's fine from what I have seen. Home grown DVDs I can't vouch for, but it may depend on a few techinical things. So this really only applies if aporawks has a lot of DVDs out of region.

I was able to get my hands on some jeremy clarkson dvd's, which are obviously from uk (which is pal). Even when ripping and recoding from pal to ntsc via nero recode, the ps3 refuses to start them up, throwing up some stupid error at me. The 360 will even play the original disc in original formatting just fine.

Was that DVD all region or region free? I have played two region free PAL DVDs that worked fine on the PS3. One is the video disk for Rewind: The Best of Camouflage and one is the video disk for Talk Talk: Natural History. Also both are imports from the U.K. Go figure.

Nope.

But then again, given this, why is it that the 360 will play them but the ps3 won't? Even moreso when I rip and recode them for NTSC.

Doesn't make sense to me, but that's what happens.
