WIC-1ADSL FirmwareHello all,
I have a couple of WIC-1ADSL's in my 2811's that I'm trying to find firmware for. They are currently running
Init FW: ASW_init_3_8_131.bin Operation FW: ASW_R3_8_131.bin FW Source: embedded FW Version: 3.8.131
and I know there are newer loads for them but I can't for the life of me find any anywhere.
Can anyone help ? Any newer version would be better than what I have.
Thanks,
Dave |

What IOS version do you have on the router? New IOS versions will have newer firmware. |

c2800nm-advsecurityk9-mz.124-24.T3.bin
at the moment. |
|
|
Care to try a 15-series release? It will likely have newer firmware for the WIC if there is any available. |

Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 15.0(1)M3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
Init FW: ASW_init_3_8_131.bin Operation FW: ASW_R3_8_131.bin FW Source: embedded FW Version: 3.8.131
no difference. The thing is reading online there are people who have shown examples of using external firmware in flash and using 3.9.220 and 3.9.221 for example, but nobody seems to have the actual firmware. Thus my problem. |

I have a copy of adsl_alc_20190.bin.4.0.15 from Sep/2008. It contains AMR-4.0.015.bin which I think is for the HWIC ADSL hardware (20190 vs. the WIC-1ADSL's 20150.) |

That is the HWIC card firmware, and the same version I'm running on my 1841. Many of the newer IOS versions (particularly the 15-series) seem to come with newer firmware in them for at least the HWIC cards. Which is why I've suggested it. As it may have a more recent firmware than what he's using. |

Ya I found the same firmware for the 20190. Ther are all sorts of those around the 20150 seems to be much harder to find.
Now unless I'm missing something here if it had the newer firmware it would just pick it up and use it right ? so I'm guessing because it's not an HWIC that they haven't included it into the latest firmware. |

Do you have any links to those discussions? 3.9.220 would be from a Cisco SOHO/800, as per the tables from Cisco.
I'm not sure new(er) firmware will make any difference. It's not going to magically become an ADSL2+ card. *grin* |

You need to try a 15-series IOS, that's where I noticed the change. All of a sudden I was running 4-series firmware on my HWIC. |
|
|
But as I posted above... I tried your idea. I went to a 15 series and it made no difference. Look 6 posts up. 15.0.1M3 and it still reads 3.8.131 on the WIC FW. |

Sorry, completely missed that post, though I would have gone with a T-Train release, not the M. You could try that.... I've found as new as 3.9.19 listed on Cisco's site.... so there ARE newer builds available. |

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but in Table 7 here it says there is at least a 3.9.19 » www.cisco.com/en/US/prod ··· c4c.htmland this one talks about the 837, but the same firmware should work. it's the same chipset of DSL card ? » compgroups.net/comp.dcom ··· firmwareand of course there was some non-english website which I can't find now that showed someone actually using the newer 3.9.xxx firmware. Maybe I'm nuts and you just can't do it on anything but a SOHO router ? if anyone had the updated firmware for the 800 series I'd give it a shot.. I'm not looking for DSL2+ where my problem is that I just moved and with my WIC-1ADSL my line syncs at 5meg and 700K, where as if I put one of my ancient 2wire modems on it I get 12meg and 1.2meg up (max sync). SO obviously the WIC's aren't reading the attenuation or something right and are not allowing it to negotiate at at least full 800K. Nobody has been able to tell me what the max a WIC-1ADSL will sync at but it should at least get 800K when an old modem sees an excess of 1meg. I know WIC's are bad for syncing to anything non-Alcatel but I figure a new firmware might help... For troubleshooting etc, I really would rather use the internal WIC, but with that kind of a sync rate difference it's a tough call. |

For giggles I just tried 15.1(2)T, no difference.. So I'm not nuts.. you see it too awesome... the big question is where are they hiding them |

I found a link for 3.9.221 but of course.... It was dead |

ADSL firmware 4.10.9 is available for download by anonymous FTP from » ftp:// ftp.cisco.com/pub/access/800. The accompanying document states it is for the Cisco 836. However I believe this has the same Alcatel 20150 chipset as the WIC-1ADSL so it might be worth seeing if it works for you. |
|
|
IIRC, it was the 837 that has the 20150. |

Are you sure about the renaming? I know that's the format for 20190 firmware but the documentation for the above firmware says to rename it to adsl_alc_firmware.bin |
|
|
I have all three. All the same firmware just different filenames.
10 317355 Jul 28 2010 13:55:08 adsl_alc_firmware.bin 11 317355 Jul 28 2010 14:45:48 adsl_alc_20150.bin 12 317355 Jul 28 2010 13:53:46 adsl_alc_firmware.4-10-9.bin
and it's not picking any of them up, and that was on 12.4 and 15 series |

Yes, I'm certain of those names.

It's not the version you're running, but it's close enough. (and it was the most immediately available image.) I don't have any 8xx images floating around. And as I said, the best I got was a non-functional interface. |
|
|
Interesting.. I did the same thing with my advancesecurity image and there is no flash: in front of them...
however the advipservices does.. and I get the same result of it failing to talk to the card when I use the 4-10-9firmware.
SO we've learned 2 things. 1) the advancesecurity doesn't seem to be able to deal with the external firmware, and 2) that firmware doesn't work in anything but an 836.
so back on the hunt we go...... |
