End of NBC WeatherPlus in Philly

NBC10 Philadelphia is launching a 24/7 network this fall to be devoted to local lifestyle and entertainment programming with a bit of news between 7 and 8 p.m.
The station's just built a new studio at its Bala Cynwyd headquarters, and plans are for the new programming to be seen on Comcast Channel 248 which currently carries NBC WeatherPlus.

WeatherPlus was the most useless station ever. No local radar, the programming didn't change during severe weather(as in to show or at least scroll warnings).

You could get a better weather report from a NOAA weather radio.

Wonder if this is a change with all of the Comcast(errr, NBC) O&Os.

It has local radar here and scrolls warnings across the top of the screen but otherwise, it has become a stepchild. Sure NBC10 is not unhappy it is going away. What they do with a 24/7 local entertainment channel will be a whole other story, I am sure.

Weather Plus was planned to move out to more stations, but none of the affiliates wanted to carry it. So, it just idled along until NBC could figure out what to do with the bandwidth.

It's better than the ABC thing or local (Chicago, WLS) carries. That thing is mostly commercials and other junk, with the radar typically a tiny thing squashed into the corner visible for a few seconds every few minutes. At least the NBC one seems to have the radar quite often and about 2/3 screen.

Cable-wise, TWC is mostly useless, as it seems whenever there is severe weather, they are running some other programming and skip Wot8 or squash it down to less than a minute. Weatherscan is OK, as it locks into a radar loop whenever there are warnings in the area. Otherwise, you need to wait awhile to see a big radar (although a tiny one is usually in the corner.) Unfortunately, Weatherscan requires Preferred or a higher package.

The new HD Star looks like in can show a small radar all the time and maybe they can force it on whenever there are warnings in the area.

I wish comcast would bring back an all weather channel. I liked weather plus and the LBAR.
They had local meteorologists give the forecast several times an hour even though they were pre-recorded. I would tune in before work in the morning if I missed the morning news to see the forecast.
They did have warnings scrolling at the bottom of the screen.
I hope comcast comes out with an all weather channel as the weather channel is just pitiful.

If you want radar on demand, use My-Cast on your PC. Better than anything on TV.

As soon as NBC acquired the Weather Channel NBC Weather Plus' day's were numbered. It was replaced by New York Nonstop on WNBC which has always been envisioned by NBC as a prototype for a eventual local replacement for Weather Plus on other NBC O&O's such as WCAU and WMAQ.

NBC Local Media New York introduces New York Nonstop, a round-the-clock local information and lifestyle channel.

On the avalon system , they had a 'weather channel' with Noaa broadcast as the voice. Its was far better then the weather channel cause. it had radar, and temp etc. I still do not understand why comcast hasnt created local weather channels. I mean anything is better then the weather channel these days. Accuweather does weather 24/7 no movies, no continuous talk about global warming, and how wonderful the democrats are.

The lazy SOBS that run my system in Chester County, PA don't even have government, schools, etc. channels. Prior to Comcast buying Suburban Cable, we had high school football games every Friday night, parades, meetings, etc.
Now they run a half-assed info channel with sent in non-profit announcements (usually 2) and HS scores from the Phila. Inquirer that are normally 4 days old and a few shots from PennDOT traffic cams that are so blurry, Godzilla could be in an intersection and you wouldn't see him.
Can't even imagine then putting an effort into a local weather channel.

we used to have the same here until tci took over. Once tci took over dimension they got rid of it. We got the stupid tv guide channel instead plus they closed down the local office and moved it across the river.
