Just two Chinese ISPs serve 20% of world broadband users

What are the chances one of those Chinese telco's buys Comcast or AT&T and goes FTTP? And then offers the same prices here as they do there?

Yeah I know, its only a dream.

Based on the percentage of the population served they are no bigger than Comcast or AT&T. If we had 1.3 BILLION people then you would see Comcast and AT&T with similar numbers. I bet rural China is no better off than Rural America.

You're thinking of Hong Kong. China's internet infrastructure is actually pretty crappy, especially to any rather important sites (you know, Facebook, Twitter, DSLReports, Google). Oh, and you've got the Great Firewall of China.

Which unfortunately only works in one direction, as evidenced by the continuous stream of blocked probes I see from China. I didn't need the article to tell me about the size of the PRC ISP customer base, I see their customers bouncing off my firewall (although I would have assumed that it was much more than 20% since about 80% of the internet noise I see comes from there).

No effing kidding. Apparently one web host is getting a 30 Gbps (yes, GIGABITS per second) DDoS flood from China, specifically China Telecom, customers. Gotta love that. I'm sure they're all using unpatched Windows XP, too.

That's not really a good reason for the USA to be behind.

And that has what to do with the article?
