[Wireless] Preventing WRT54GL admin UI open to WAN?

Hi

That's my question.

Is it possible to prevent the WRT54GL admin UI from being opened from WAN and only let it be open from LAN IP addresses?

Many thanks
Martinus

PS.- Mod, feel free to move this topic to another forum should you find it appropriate.

Not sure if your setup page looks mine, but if you go to the Administration page you should be able to disable it.

Thanks, Ronnie_USA See Profile

My setup page looks just like yours but I am able to open the routers admin UI if I enter my WAN address in a browser. This is what I would like to prevent.

I'd like to have the routers Admin UI only to respond to a LAN address. Don't know if this is possible though.

I think I found the answer.

When I try to connect to my router with a browser from my home PC but via my WAN IP address, I get the password prompt and I can login.

But, I've just logged via Remote Desktop to another system, tried that and there is no response when I try to do the same. So I guess the router is actually not open to remote management.

You found the norm, as non-intuitive as it seems it is normal from the LAN side.

Some new exploits use a web-page to access the router from the victim's LAN side exactly with this technique (their WAN address). So be sure and change the router password from default.
