quote: For much of this year, the NewsLeecher team has been busy releasing a slew of beta updates to its release candidate 4.0 client. Today's release is beta 20, and is probably one of the last betas until the official 4.0 release comes out (considering the NewsLeecher development team announced that beta 19 was one of the last). Here are the release notes for this release:
+: The NewsLeecher executable and the NewsLeecher setup archive is now digitally signed to avoid false positives by anti virus software, and to prevent security warnings during install and launch. +: It's now possible to manually select which setup / data files NewsLeecher should load at startup, by pressing the F12 key while launching NewsLeecher. *: Lots of smaller improvements. !: Fixed bug where NewsLeecher would sometimes return an error when downloading very big articles. !: Fixed small issue, where the groups listview article position wasn't always reset when entering a new usenet group. !: Many smaller bugfixes.
Back in the day, I found Newsleecher invaluable. But now I can do everything it does for free. With all the free usnenet indexing sites and free usenet software I can't see paying $20 a year for Newsleecher. $30 with it's supersearch included. Too many free alternatives to choose from.
Development seems to have been very slow for quite awhile. -- Panda Cloud AV Pro + Online Armor + Router/SPI |

dvusdougPremium join:2002-04-27 Rogers, AR | reply to Stem Bolt If you buy Newsleecher you get to keep the program after the year is up. Now it's true that if you're buying Newsleecher with Supersearch access you would have to buy it again for a year. As written on their website:
This package includes free, unlimited, minor and major, NewsLeecher upgrades for an entire year. After the upgrade period is over, you can keep and use the most recent NewsLeecher version, released within the upgrade period time frame, for as long as you like.
Newsleecher + Supersearch is 29.99 for a year or the more expensive way is 2.99 a month.
I bought NL + SS back in February and will probably buy it again next year just because of the convenience of Supersearch. Sure I can use websites to get the same data but it's quicker and easier just to use NL + SS. It's not that much money and I like supporting good software. |

I was just saying that "I" don't find any value in Newsleecher any more. If you and others do, that is great. -- Panda Cloud AV Pro + Online Armor + Router/SPI |

It's not perfect, but it works. most of the time. |
