Blast-If you have 22/2-22/4-27.5/4 provisioning, post here

Use shaperprobe to report speeds if your modem doesn't specifically show that. For more information about shaperprobe, visit: »www.cc.gatech.edu/~partha/diffprobe

Before posting a report in this thread, please see my post here.

I am looking for the hard proof of an upgrade from 16/2 to 22/2.2 or 22/4.4 or 27.5/4.4. That would either be from your modem configuration pages (if you have a modem which shows provisioning) or screenshots of downloads and/or uploads saturating your pipe long enough to get past PowerBoost and show sustained speeds which prove the provisioning has been done to the new speeds. It could also be an email or letter or statement from Comcast which shows the new speed provisioning. Shaperprobe helps in that determination as well.

A little bird whispered in my ear this morning, so I checked my modem stats page. I have a Linksys which shows the provisioned rates and this morning it says ...

Seattle area:

Proof of 22/4 provisioning

This is apparently the rumored free upgrade from 16/2 (Blast) to 22/4. This is a provisioned rate, not the short Powerboost which only boosts at the beginning of the download/upload.

Edit to add: This time I did need to powercycle the modem. I have had upgrades before where that was not necessary.

Additionally, I have received no official Comcast notice so I don't know if this is for real or just a test.

Nice! Thank you, Comcast.

Seattle Upgrade Is Official!

As for PowerBoost ...

PowerBoost likes new modem.

22/4.4 still exists in some markets. Right now we're in transitional period moving everyone who was on 22/2.2 & 22/4.4 to 27.5/4.4

I am told I have 22/4.4 provisioning. It usually looks like this with shaperprobe.

Downstream: Burst size: 8194-8477 KB;

Like Dadkins once said to me. If you think you're in an area that is testing speeds before a official rollout, don't reset your modem for nothing. You might lose it!

And considering what was seen here: »[Speed] Speed Change?

Shouldn't the name of this topic unfortunately be "Do you have the 20/2 - 20/4 speeds yet?"

Also, did your little bird tell you anything about what those who are still stuck at 8/2 are getting upgraded to? Are we skipping 16/2 and going right to 20/4?

I'm probably good unless we have a (rare) power outage for leaving the modem alone. I don't tend to have a need for power cycles ordinarily.

I edited the title per your suggestion, thanks (keep me straight, folks).

I don't know the answers to your questions. If my "little bird" reads this and does know, perhaps she/he will whisper again?

Bird whispers:
Depending on what the market can support capacity wise is determining who gets 20/2 and 20/4.

And there are no plans to upgrade 8/2 subs at this time that I'm aware of.

The answer regarding 8/2 has me a bit confused. If Comcast is still on target to have all markets DOCSIS 3 by the end of the year, there would be no 8/2 subscribers left by the end of the year. If they are saying there will be no change in provisioning at this time until the area is upgraded to DOCSIS 3, that makes sense to me.

Well that is disappointing, but thank you letting me know. Guess it's really no surprise I'd have to wait 4 years for an upgrade. Ah, no matter, I was prepared to wait anyway.

Here's a bit for ya, a little while ago, Comcast said that they have all but 20% of systems upgraded to D3 this year. They are the less competitive markets. Sounds like mine is included despite U-Verse 24/3 competition right now. So, I won't be seeing any upgrade goodies until sometime in 2011

Does that clear your confusion, AVG?

I don't recall seeing an announcement that they had changed their plan, do you perhaps have a link to the announcement or post where they said that?

I don't think my friend means to be speaking for all of Comcast. I saw a "that I'm aware of" in the statement given to me.

I think this is the one. It may be wrong, but on my end, it certainly feels like this is what's happening.

Thanks for the link. If it makes you feel better, still awaiting DOCSIS 3 here or even Blast!.

You're welcome. Hope I got the right one. And it's nice to know I'm not the only one stuck in this boat right now. But we've waited this long, what's a few more months, eh?

What do you mean by "I have my connection rate shaped at 20M down & 3M up"? Do you have a modem which shows the provisioned rate? If so, what does that say? Or do you mean you set traffic shaping in your router at 20M down & 3M up?

Have you tried looking at sustained download/upload rate? If not, try downloading/uploading a large file from a fast server (or several at the same time to saturate your connection and add the results together) to see what speed you are getting after the PowerBoost stops.

An increase in speed test results may only be showing higher PowerBoost in your area. Since you are near Atlanta and we've had previous evidence of an upgrade of the Blast tier in Augusta, though, it would be good to see your sustained rates.

Do you have any evidence of your actual provisioned rate, BLACK_HAT? A speed test could only be showing the initial PowerBoost speed.

Yes I have a linksys 320N & use dd-wrt for traffic shaping as you describe. Even without testing around powerboost, I know that it has gotten faster, because things like netflix has gotten better (I almost always get "HD" quality now).
