Re: [Speed] If you have the 20/2 - 20/4 speeds now, post here

In this thread I am looking for hard evidence that you are actually provisioned for the higher speeds. Speed test results and subjective observations could simply be other improvements on your local network and are not really evidence of the tier provisioning increase for which I am looking.

So, while I'm glad your connection is so much better, this thread is about reporting the actual tier upgrades from 16/2 to either 20/2 or 20/4.

inhaler, while your speeds look nice, you haven't given us anything we can consider proof you are provisioned for either 20/2 or 20/4.

12/2 appears to now be 20/2 in Snohomish, WA

Snohomish ,Wa
on 12/2( advertised as 15/3 here)
Shaper probe is reliably showing 20/2 sustained/shaped rate after a 30/3.7 Powerboost (tested multiple times on each server) definately bumped up from a few weeks ago (last time I throughly tested). result from all known good speed tests are in the same range.

DiffProbe beta release. October 2009. Build 1002.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 38.102.0.111.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 3702 Kbps.
Downstream: 30644 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: Burst size: 4935-4992 KB;
Shaping rate: 2090 Kbps.

Downstream: Burst size: 5344-6097 KB;
Shaping rate: 20197 Kbps.

Re: [Speed] If you have the 20/2 - 20/4 speeds now, post here

I was hopeful SOMETHING was coming, pings and throughput were all over the place a month ago (I figured they were doing repairs/maintaince/UPGRADES.)
Fortunately it was a GOOD something.
Pings are averaging the best this year, even to the S.F Bay area, portland, and various other areas, most important is everything is back to it reliable, consistant norm.

Yes, but it makes one wonder. If 20/2 is going to be the standard tier to replace 12/2, what's with charging $10 more a month for 20/4. If it turns out to be true, for my situation, I would be downgrading and saving $120/yr.

That's why I'm on 12/2...Unless you really noitice a bandwidth shortage/have the NEED for more speed, the bottom tier provdes everything we need, and at least in this area seems to upgrade right about the time I think about going to a higher tier.

Well, I am informed by my contact that no changes were made to the silver tier, also that we need to rely more on actual download/upload of a file or on those modems which show the provisioned rate, not on speed tests or apps like shaperprobe.

Sorry.

Yeah, I'm on the 16/2 tier and I've run ShaperProbe no less than a dozen times in the last few days and I consistently get results that don't quite add up. I'm not convinced it's as reliable as the consensus seems to believe it to be.

As tshirt noticed, we've had some changes here in Portland recently too, but I don't believe it to be any speed upgrades.

About three weeks ago I did go from 3 bonded downstream channels to now having 4. The most noticeable change has been my ping to the local Comcast speed test and other Portland based tests. My ping has always been about 20ms (for months even years) but it now reliably is about 5 ms.

I'm hoping since they've been advertising 100Mbps coming soon, that we will get the bump to 20/4 and not 20/2 as some others will be getting.

Rumor I heard about California ...

People in areas of California who currently have Blast (16/2) tier, especially if you are in areas where there is competition with Comcast ... you may want to powercycle your modems and check for an upgrade. Starting today, but maybe (based on past experience) the change will show up on different days in different areas. I'm just saying ...

I am also hearing Comcast may be wanting those who do get the upgrade to switch to a DOCSIS 3 modem if we haven't done so already.

I get those speeds with my 12/2 with PowerBoost. It doesn't look like 20/4 or 20/2.

12/2 isn't being upgraded anyway. This would only be a possibility for someone who has Comcast Blast tier (16/2) and then probably only in areas where there are very competitive other providers.

Does your modem show provisioning? Or, what speed do you get on sustained downloads/uploads.

From the first post:

Before posting a report in this thread, please see my post here.

I am looking for the hard proof of an upgrade from 16/2 to either 20/2 or 20/4. That would either be from your modem configuration pages (if you have a modem which shows provisioning) or screenshots of downloads and/or uploads saturating your pipe long enough to get past PowerBoost and show sustained speeds which prove the provisioning has been done to the new speeds. It could also be an email or letter or statement from Comcast which shows the new speed provisioning.

Also, as I have tried to make clear in several ways throughout this thread, we're not talking about base tier (12/2) here. We are speaking only of Blast (16/2), no other tier.

Nice, I can't explain it. It is still off topic in this thread. See the topic title.

Maybe you should start a new thread (New Topic button top right of the forum) and show again what you are seeing on your basic connection in Georgia. Maybe someone can come up with an explanation.

What does your bill say? Thinking maybe you are are on a different tier than you suspect. Or your modem was somehow provisioned incorrectly, in which case I would enjoy the speed
