H.R.5741 -Mandatory 2 years Conscription all US Citz 18-42

Uncle Sam is thinking about making you Government Issue.
What you think would be irrelevant.

said by a Blog :

The bill is worded this way:

"To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes."
I guess isn't very popular to discuss this bill,
as evidenced by the lack of major press outlet coverage.

Causes me to wonder what they anticipate such a need to staff up for?

It looks like we're heading into a double-dip recession. Unemployment will go back into double digits. The Treasury and Fed Reserve are almost out of ammo to stimulate the economy.

Historically, the fix for such long-term economic woes is a war.

My money is on Iran. Recently, Russia stopped defending Iran, and even went so far as to publicly criticize them. I thought that was significant.

I don't think N. Korea would be the target. China's still their ally. China gets a lot of benefit out N. Korea's psychotic breaks. Just as we're ready to put pressure on China over Tibet, human rights, unfair trade practices or currency manipulation, we have to rely on China to reel in N. Korea -- using up all our political clout. (I.e., I don't see China letting us whack N. Korea anytime soon.).

It has no co-sponsor and was introduced by the disgraced Rangel.

The Black Congressional Caucus trots this one out every 2 yrs or so (1x per congressional session) claiming that the volunteer force is mostly blacks and they are the only ones dying in our police actions. They want a draft claiming we won't get in overseas adventures if whites were dying.

It is going nowhere.

We'll see how many will try to come in to Canada if this were to happen. Especially if they face going off to war.

The prospect of the current Canadian government allowing them to stay looks unlikely. There have been several cases of US military personnel wanting to stay in Canada to avoid serving in Iraq being deported back to the US to face court-martial.

Exactly MMH. This bill is going nowhere. Probably doesn't even get marked up in committee.

MMH Called it.

This isn't going anywhere. And the Black Caucus are pandering fools.

They should try taking a look at the military make up.
