Re: Extreme gaming system build/upgrade Help

said by Mr Stone:

The parts have been ordered and on the way just as I posted.

Some people just don't get it. This is not just about playing a game called Microsoft Flight Simulator. It goes far beyond that. These people are in some weird stuff. He has been trying for years to get me into this but unless I can pop a cap in ones head in a first person shooter game I not going to play.

It's his money he can spend it the way he sees fit. He earned it. It has nothing to do with what one spends for computers.

I think the real problem is that one person is just pissed cause he don't have the money to buy good things. Maybe? When I buy things I by nothing but the best. Have learned over the years you get what you pay for.

With all that said thanks to most all that have help with input on this.

I will post some pics on the build. He will here during the week of the 15.

Well said. Good luck, pics will be cool, thanks.

Edit: We did change the video to.........
ASUS ROG MATRIX 5870 P/2DIS/2GD5 Radeon HD 5870 Platinum 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX.

Very nice, that card will rock. Oh, BTW, tell them to keep an eye out for the ASUS ARES card, it is coming out soon. Unreal stuff, take a look. It will retail for around $1,200 though.

But if they want to upgrade later, with another ROG in Crossfire it will probably surpass the ARES, or at least be right there (since the ARES is basically 2 of those cards squeezed together!).

The Asus Rog 5870 came in last Fri. What a beast. Weighs in at 2 1/4 pounds and is 10 1/2" long. The packaging for the card is superb.

The G.SKILL Ripjaws memory came in last Thur. What can you say it's a pretty red color. No info on the rest of the parts but should be hear this coming week.

Looks great. This will be one powerful beast!

I’m guessing that the video card might be a tight fit in the Antec P180 case but it should fit just the same. If for some reason it does not then all you would have to do is remove the HDD tray(s). The stock Intel Core i7-980X cooler looks like it could do the job just fine too but the H50 will likely do a better job.

Checking the video card with my case it fits with room to spare. Now if I put this card in my setup as I have it right now it would not fit as I have a passive cooler on the north bridge chip.

I did the H50 just in case he might some time want to try and OC. That i7-980X cooler does look as if it would cool a fright train.
