While I will say that the sliding mechanism is just one more on the list of things to go wrong, I will not say they're garbage. If people would quit treating their phones like toys or slide hard, etc, I would venture to say that the vast majority of them wouldn't break. I've had several sliding phones and even flip phones. NONE of them broke on me.
I've had a couple, they all got stuff in the sliders just from being in my pccket and broke. I'm not hard on my phones. Its rare for any of my phones to ever get a scratch on them.
