Re: Extreme gaming system build/upgrade Help said by ztmike:Wanted to start off by saying that you don't need 24GB of RAM..that is just insanely out of touch of what any game out there uses. I would shoot for 8GB, that is plenty for current games. OP specifically said he wanted to max out on the memory.
said by ztmike:Secondly, don't go with XFX for a GPU, their product quality suffers from every story I hear on Overclock.net, sure they have a lifetime warranty, but whats the use when you have to return the damn thing everytime it breaks due to poor build quality? OP specifically said no OCing (it was in bold). So all the Overclockers on Overclock.net are telling stories about pushing the card to its breaking point, etc. No an issue here. Oh, and it's not a Lifetime warranty, it's a DOUBLE lifetime warranty, so even if you buy it used, you still get it covered for life....what other company in any industry offers that?
said by ztmike:Thirdly, Don't necessarily need an SSD drive..he would be fine using a regular WD Black drive, unless he absolutely must waste his money even more than he currently is and for a mere couple seconds in speed improvement if he went SSD. SSD is definately not a waste of money, but if he specifically wants to SAVE money, then the Black drives will work fine. His budget seemed to indicate the customer wanted performance, with price not being a restrictive factor.
said by ztmike:For the video card, I would honestly say get ATI in Crossfire, with 2 5870s. They run cooler than the gtx 480 and use alot less power. Yeah that would be a good, powerful GPU solution. Especially if he goes with two of the 2GB cards. | | ztmikeMark for moderationPremium join:2001-08-02 Michigan City, IN 2 edits | said by Vamp9190:said by ztmike:Wanted to start off by saying that you don't need 24GB of RAM..that is just insanely out of touch of what any game out there uses. I don't see any use of 24GB of ram even being used. Hell that alone will probably cost $900 or more. And this guy is wanting to play Microsoft Flight Simulator..not exactly a game that will even come close to touching what this guy is trying to put together.
2.) That's a wild statement to just say the stories I heard on Overclock.net about XFX build quality was because it was from a forum called "Overclock" that every single user that experinced problems was due to overclocking.
Let me ask you this; even if it was due to overclocking, don't you think that's still shady build quality? And you can always down clock if the card can't handle it. But you can't do that if the card just craps out for no apparent reason.
3.) The whole SSD thing is a personal I want/Don't want, I personally don't see the use of it especially at the price point/per GB.
4.) You don't need the 2GB versions to max out games. 2 5870 1GB would be more than enough.
-I personally don't understand why people spend this kind of money on a system when nothing will even take advantage of it plus it will be outdated within a year. Computer tech will always be a step ahead of software. | | |
