Re: My first real Cisco
Thanks. So GNS3 is unusable without buying a router.
For use on a home cable system, its confusing to sort out what would inexpensively give me good hands-on exposure?
When you guys discuss »[Info] IOS 15.1.(2)T released and »WIC-1ADSL Firmware it sounds like firmware is available for download. Is that because you have service contracts?
Looking over »Cisco Forum FAQ
OK, SO YOU GUYS HAVE A CONTRACT »Cisco Forum FAQ »What is Smartnet? Do I need one?

...If you have SMARTnet tied to a CCO ID, yes.
Is "Cisco Unified Communications Software Subscription" a rabbit trail I am following. CDW sells these contracts for as little as $10 for a year.

GNS3 is perfectly usable if you dont buy a router. The fact is that most students either copy the IOS they want to emulate from their class routers, or if you are a professional with CCO access, you log into cisco.com and download whatever IOS you want.
I see. My class is using a simulation called CCNA Virtual Lab Platinum. I'll ask my instructor if he has any router images this Saturday. I've seen actual Cisco hardware, but not in action.
