Clear QAM?

Now that the new DOCSIS 3.0 packages are rolling out in my area, I'm looking to step up my internet and possibly cut back on my TV to help absorb some of the costs.

Can anyone tell me what if any HD channels I'll be able to receive with a QAM-capable tuner card that lacks CableCard? I currently have an analog tuner I intend on using, but if I can get any channels I want in HD with QAM I'll upgrade my tuner card when I sell my TiVo.

I have seen some reports claiming that at least certain markets had QAM versions of most or all analog channels, though none were particularly clear about whether they were SD or HD.

Between Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, and the like pretty much everything I watch is available legally online, so if I can cover the few that aren't with a basic "Television Plus" subscription and a tuner card it would be awesome.

I have this HDTV USB device »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···-Product I was only able to get analog channels up to channel 65 with it. I might try playing around with it and see if I can get anything else.

Last time I checked (about a month ago), all the SD channels apart of basic cable were simulcast in SD clear QAM, and the locals were simulcast in HD clear QAM. Hope this helps.

I've been experimenting with this. I ran a scan and get mostly every channel (SD and HD) available on the system without a box, however, the channels are scattered about and scrambled. You literally have to sit there and figure out which network you are watching and make note of the channel number. They do not follow any particular order either.

My TV tells me what format the channel is in, 1080i, 720P or 480i.

I tried already. I could only get SD channels up to about 65 and HD of local channels (NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS). If you play arround with the channels you can learn the range of channels used by video on demand and can watch anything that someone in your neighborhood is watching on VOD (including movies). If you want all HD you will probably have to have a TV that accepts cable cards and be in an area where Armstrong offers them (not all areas do).
