Hacking a computer is like raping children? Wow. Not even on the same level. Bank robber yes, child raper... not even close.
Well, either you or the OP was being sarcastic...

That said, 4 months is chump change. Now they'll figure out how to do it without going to prison next time.

It's worth noting that a 4 month "prison" sentence doesn't exist. Anything less than 6 months is served in a county jail. Similar concept, but a very different type of facility with a different group of people. (majority only accused rather than convicted)

That's true in Canada too..although I believe 'jail' is two years less a day, and prison is 2 years or more. Generally, you're better off in prison I would think, since you'd be allowed a few more rights.

Sorry, sir but either you are ignorant of the totality of the circumstances in this case, or you don't know what you’re talking about.

The notion that anything less than a 6 month sentence is served in a county jail in every jurisdiction in the US is simply flat out WRONG.

The time varies from state to state and correctional system to correctional system. In Pennsylvania it's anything less than 2 years aggregate sentence. Even then, you can work out a plea bargain in order to stay in the county prison (the county joints usually have better chow).

In Delaware, everyone sentenced to prison time serves their time in a state prison. Why? There are no county jails in Delaware. All correctional facilities in Delaware are run by the state DOC. So, if you get sentenced to 4 months prison in Delaware for, say, a drug charge. You could possibly share your cell with a murderer, a Wilmington street thug, or a guy arrested for kiddie porn.

Since (if you read the story) this bozo was sentenced in FEDERAL court, he will serve his time in a Federal prison. Most likely he will be permitted to self surrender. USMS will send him a letter telling him when and where to report. Since this is a non violent crime, and he has no prior record, most likely he will serve his time in a minimum security prison camp with other non violent, mostly drug offenders.

That said, Federal Prison camp isn't exactly FPMINTA prison, but it's no cake walk either. There are plenty a book on surviving Federal Prison camp.

One might ask how I know all this. It's what I've done for a living the past 13 years (working at various state, county, federal, and local law enforcement agencies) so I assure you that while I won't say this is 100% accurate, it's pretty damn close to it.

He'll serve the 4 months, probably at some prison camp cutting grass and weeding flowerbeds at some Air Force base or something....

NO , jail or provincial time as it is really known is easier in some ways as you have more freedoms ...prison as you call it is called actually federal time and you have fewer rights fewer freedoms but are left alone more and dont get bothered by "short timers"
if thats worth more time then you need a REAL good head shake.....
also you dont get internet access in provincial time while you can get very very restricted access in federal jails.

My understanding - at least from the prison here in Kitchener - Grand Valley Institute for Women, which is a federal prison, they have a lot more freedoms than that Vanier Institute in Milton which is provincial. Although I could be wrong since I've been to neither...

They probably got only 4 months because they were right about Comcast's service.

Since when is "he deserved it" an acceptable defense to a crime? Lots of people might or might not deserve to have some bad things happen to them, but if you commit a crime against them - even if you think you're just doing them the favor of educating them, expect to pay for it.

There's nothing else to babble on about.
