Kinda OT-De-humidifier smoked?

It was running fine, then a smell of burnt electronics filled the air. The compressor was very hot and no longer runs. Is the condensor fried or could be the starting caps. or circuit? And, if it's the compressor, has anyone succesfully re-charged a unit like this after compressor replacement? Without leaks?

Most likely a capacitor. Look at them for signs of leaks.

If it is the compressor, it is not worth repairing.

if the compressor WAS fried, you'd never smell it, it's hermetically sealed in steel. check the capacitors, the overheat sensor(klixon) usually under the cover, and make sure the fan runs, if the fan don't run, that may be what smoked(or the capacitor for it), the compressor won't be cooled without that fan, so it won't run long without that. also, a switch could have smoked too, so you have a few things to check.

Perhaps your dehumidifier was recalled?
