I cloned my old HDD and got everything up and running again in no time. I also tweaked the OC a little so my machine is running at a nice cool and stable 3.7Ghz (it was at 3.8Ghz before I made adjustments) Everything seems to be working fine, except there seems to be an issue with BOINC. The machine averaged in the low 20K PPD before I upgraded, but now it is turning in dismal numbers. I uninstalled BOINC and reinstalled, but no changes in results. I'm running Win 7 64 Ultra and a 64 bit version of BOINC, 4GB PC8500. Any ideas about what's going on? -- -meh |

2 edits | reply to nerdburg It appears that only half of your processors are being recognized from 8/5 forward. Check your task manager to see if you have 6 graphs? If so, are all 6 graphs showing full cpu activity?
You might also try this...modify however you need for win7 -start, run, type in >>> "msconfig", enter -select the boot. ini tab -select advanced options -/num proc=? ( by default ) -change to 6
EDIT: It seems like you can get to the same configuration program for win7 through control panel, system configuration, but I can't remember for sure.
EDIT 2: I remotely connected to my mom's Vista in xp mode machine. The run command works just fine, or you can also get the utility by... control panel, administrative tools, system configuration...

Okay Ray, I gave that a shot - it was just grayed out. I changed it to "6" for number of CPUs. FWIW, my little CPU meter gadget always shows 100% usage whenever BOINC is running. And task manager shows 6 graphs maxed out. -- -meh |

1 edit | Did ya save the change and re-start?
I was suspecting Win7 as the culpit, because I had heard some talk of the same problem. That fix had worked on some machines without having to re-install the o/s.
Perhaps win7 is not the culptit after all. Did you install win7 earlier and have all cores working before your new ssd installation?
...otherwise, have you tried a different boinc version? My mom's vista will not crunch all cores with 6.2.28 or 6.10.58 and I never figured out why. I installed the old version 5.10.45 and bingo, been working ever since. -- Things I like - Team Discovery - Quads©3.3 to 4.1ghz - Strawberry Ice cream How's That Hope & Change Working For Ya?
