Re: I call.

That is a Google marketplace, with a verizon overperson to say what can and cannot run on the cellular network. Verizon does also have their own "app store" called Vcast. The problem is that Verizon charges a ton more for apps and would lose a revenue stream, and therefore would probably not allow the app store, and replace it with a proprietary Verizon app store. Same goes with Itunes. Verizon would probably want Itunes replaced with Vcast, as Verizon charges more per song, and makes a killing from them, so why would they let a competitor eat their captive market?

Plain and simple, the Iphone MAY(not will, but it could) end up MORE crippled on Verizon that on AT&T. This is simply because Verizon will want to make a profit from the App store, and Itunes(which apple would not allow). And since Apple will not allow this, Verizon would want the App Store, and Itunes, replaced with a Verizon proprietary app and music store. Apple is not likely to buy into this(as the app store, and Itunes are an integral part of the iOS), and this is the most important reason as to why Verizon may never get the iphone.

Yeah. Verizon isnt crippling phones like they use to. Take a look at what AT&T does to it Android Phones. The Backflip is the most crippled phone ever. My Droid X and Original Droid are not crippled.

Agreed for the most part, except for the fact that Verizon has certainly chosen to "cripple" my first-gen Droid by not allowing for wireless tethering. Say what you want about Apple, but they don't usually cripple a product to make it's successor more compelling less than a year after the original's release. It's absurd. Verizon and Motorola don't have anywhere near as much goodwill with me after pulling this bullshit. I may actually be switching back to the iPhone/AT&T after my contract expires with Verizon.

uh no. they're App store is the VCast store. you should seriously learn to read. That was why Apple and VZ couldn't work out a deal to start off with. VZ wants the VCast store and Apple wanted iTunes. VZ won't give up their cash cow.

I could NOT disagree with you more.

The carriers want users in contracts - period. If the iPhone brings that in, then so be it. They make a fortune off the data plans, the texting plans, and so on. Verizon is already living with the android store so why would the app store be any different?

The iPhone will NEVER be cripple on any carrier - plain and simple end of discussion. The iPhone is based on, now, the iOS operating system. It's not customized to the carrier with the exception of turning on and off things like tethering and MMS.. but no, Verizon wouldn't touch the OS.

You guys seem to think that things are black and white, one way or the other. You guys seem to think that the Android is going to be with what they stick with and that they don't "need" apple.. um, any company that wants to make as much money as these carriers do would not turn their nose away from millions of customers.

Just how "crippled" is the iPhone on AT&T anyway? You talking about tethering?

You're the one who replied to a poster that didn't even mention the VCast store and you want me to learn to read?

yep.. I don't know what world sprkleMotion is living in but Moto, Apple, Verizon, etc all cripple their phones on the same level.

My problem with my Motorola Droid is that it is:
1. a product that was launched less than a year ago, and
2. is a product that is currently being sold.
and still Verizon/Motorola have chosen to lie about its capabilities and deliberately disable WIFI tethering for the clear purpose of upselling the Droid 2.

In my experience with Apple products (and I may be overlooking something) Apple has not crippled a product in such a manner when compared to its successor within a year of the original's release.

The iphone vs the iphone 3g is full of examples. Ever since ios 3, apple has neutered the original iphone, even though the hardware on both phones is nearly identical. MMS anyone? Video recording? Apple is a prime example of a company crippling products to make artificial market segments to increase profits.

Apple instead launches a product without a feature (like mms) stops selling the old one and requires you to pay full price to upgrade to the new. At least with the Droid it isn't full retail price which is the whole point.

IIRC, none of these products were released with less than a year between each other. The Droid was THE best Android smartphone to get when it launched, and it has not even been a year.

I have an original Droid. How am I able to get the new Droid 2 at less than retail price as you allude to? If you're talking about the carrier subsidized price for renewing a contract about 16 months into a two year commitment, that does not help current Droid owners. What's more, the same subsidized pricing has been available to iPhone upgraders as well. I'm not sure I'm understanding you?
