FTTH: New boxes and wiring in Québec City

Bell is installing new wiring and boxes in my street in Limoilou, Quebec City. FTTH?

This was installed yesterday behind where I live:

It's probably FTTH. Do you see any tags or labels nearby that say "cable optique" or "fibre node" or anything along those lines?

I don't see any tag.

I wish you're not on DSL because if you are then who can really tell
what will happen to you, especially if you're with a 3rd-party ISP!...

Six months after these arrived in my immediate neighbourhood i was
forced to switch to cable:

I was subscribing to VelCom, a 3rd-party ISP from Toronto...

Actually, DSL is "available" here but it's very crappy. The nearest CO is at 5.8KM and no remote are available. My current only choice is cable...

Eeeesh, cue complaints about visual pollution, looks like those things were designed to stand out quite a bit.

Euh... What do you make of that?:

If this is no C.O. then i just don't know what that is supposed to be
exactly - and it seems like 26e rue is not too far away at all, IMHO!

This is when I tested TekSavvy, both them and Bell told me that no remote were available for my area, up to 26e rue. The nearest CO is located on rue St-Réal, just on top of the stair at the intersection of rue Dorchester and De la Couronne:

Also, if I enter my address or a neighbor telephone number on Bell's website, the only Internet service offered is the basic 2Mbps service.

Yes! They are installed by Bell themselves. A lot of trucks around in the last two weeks.

M'ouais.

Probably FTTH, lucky you. I'm in a new development (Les Méandres) where cables are buried so I probably won't be able to get FTTH when it launches later this year

Wasn't Bell supposed to install fibre with all new developments?

Well there was no fibre underground when I've moved here a few months ago. Hopefully they'll change that over the coming months.

Jesus... that ain't pretty... but if it's really FTTH I'd take it too! lol

Are you sure there's no Cable companies on that pole, it's only a Bell pole?

Vidéotron has cables too on this pole but Bell installed those boxes. They were here today (and stole my parking for a few hours by the way) to attach wires to it!

so there's three cables. are they power, optical upload, optical download?

also, is that box some kind of multiplexing unit? will individual optical service drops be connected to it?

I don't think drops will be directly install to them. You will have to put a lot of this thing if you connect to it directly. I think they feed terminals, like telephone and cable.

very cool stuff! Around my parts, I'm pretty sure there is no fiber going into the ground in new subdivisions.

I live on 5th and I can confirm that there was a lot of Bell-action in Limoilou, also around my corner. They rolled a new cable around the already present cables and installed a new box (thin metal garbage bin model) with some very thick cables coming out.

Since the beginning of July we had a few power outs and everytime Bell trucks were around somewhere...

Tomorrow I'll see if I can understand something of what is hanging there.

FTTH? In Limoilou? Probably not. FTTN/FTTK is more likely for a start. That is: if we're lucky!

Also saw Bell working in St. Jean-Baptiste by the way... On Ste-Marie even a whole new pole in the ground!
