If you took the time used posting this rant to google for the part, you woulda found one much cheaper.

(they do have stuff that will deice the road and not rust metal) Actually did you know that GM subsidizes the salt used by cities for the roads in winter? Decades ago the cities were reluctant to use salt because it would be expensive, GM then figured that they would sell more cars if salt was thrown on the roads and ravage their bodies. My marketing teacher told me this. |

Did he also tell you that McDonalds keeps their restaurant temperature uncomfortably low so people won't hang around after eating, making room for more customers? -- Don't hate OS X users because of YOUR poor choice in an OS.. |

(The choice is not necessarily "use salt or use X", "use salt or don't" is also possible).
Mind you, I'm not sure I buy it either. Sounds urban-legendy, though Snopes came up empty. |

Used a lot around here as it's cheap and besides the salt loses it's effectiveness at the very cold temperatures we sometimes get.
Works very well. Very effective at improving traction on icy roads. Downside is the obvious spring street cleanup required. |
