Mafia 2 released...

I hate the graphics but love the details.

It started off like a CoD, which is kind of dumb.

The Chapter 2 fight tutorial is stupid.

Did they seriously just say "hehe" a few times?

Half of the Italian isn't translated.

My video card (gtx 260 core 216) is going bat shit insane and it's sucking up most of my C2Q @ 2.83ghz and most of my 4 gigs of memory.

Initial impression is not good

Continuity error in chapter 3. The union guy is reading a Playboy. Playboy was released in 1953. Ch 3 is 1945.

Night time is beautiful.

When the ice freezes over and other small details, you can slide cars like it's nothing. Amazing.

The graphics at night are perfect.. Daylight, not so much. Doesn't quite work.

I made it to chapter 8. apparently only the tutorial was awful and the first few missions.

The game play is sort of amusing. sound is pretty good and a lot of hidden extra details, which is really making the game.

Playboy has a licensing deal - which is why it's in the game in the first place.

Well I just finished the game earlier today. I'm borderline on whether I like it or not.

It has some good things and some annoying things. Driving a car seems a lot more difficult then I remember it being in the first Mafia. I don't remember having as much problems over steering or under steering as I did in this one. And it seems like when I have to chase someone, there where more AI cars conveniently getting in the way.

Plus the fact they put busses in and you can't get on and ride them. I can steal one, but I was wanting to get on as a passenger like I could the trolleys in the first one. And the elevated trams you can't ride either. It's like they took out the things that made the first one fun. I liked riding in the trolley and upper trams from time to time.

And no free ride mode so once you finished the game, that's it. Unless you want to either replay the last act, load a previous chapter or start a new game. Then there is nothing you can do after you finish it. And it seems to go quickly. I mean if I can buy it Tuesday and have it finished by Thursday, that to me is a short game. It took me a lot longer to finish the original Mafia game.

I had fun playing it, but I don't think it was worth the $50 I paid for the PC version. Time to dig out the original Mafia and install the last Alive mod and have some fun again.

Yeah. I don't like paying $50 for a game that lasts 6 hours with almost no replayability.

I feel bad for the people who got a collectors edition.

I know what you mean. I was looking forward to seeing a Free ride type of game mode on this one. I thought they would have done it on this game like the first one. I think an updated Free ride in Empire City would have been a great thing to have.

But to have a game that I finished in 2 days, and no way to do anything else except replay the game over again makes me feel cheated in a way. I expected it to be more difficult then the 1st one and to me it was easier to get through the chapters then the original Mafia was.

Maybe they will add a Free Ride type of game as a downloadable content pack. But I doubt they will.

I'm impressed at the level of overall angry posts about all the removed content and other hilarity that 2k half assed.

It's a shame. It's a good engine gone to waste on this junk.

Ending sucked too.

I have the full game..

The problem, is that the developers never attended this game to be a GTA clone..and from what I understand never meant for the game to be a real opened up sandbox type of game like GTA 4 is, as once your done with the story missions..pretty much no replay value what-so-ever.

As the city is pretty much dead including no swimming and no flying, I'm surprised that they didn't include a trolly car even..weren't these popular back in the late 40s early 50s?

So yes I would call this game a missed opportunity, but the sadly the developers never intended this game to be open..they wanted the player to experience their story and that's it.

Honestly Its not worth the price of admission.

And they never did fix the glitch with the screen going half way dark once you exit the game..you have to open up task manager to get rid of it. They are so far up Nvidias asshole that they can't see the light of day.

I never had that problem with the latest drivers on my 260.

Yes. Street cars / trams were hugely popular in the 50s -> 70s.

I brought the game and honestly, I expected too much. The story is good, don't get me wrong but it feels like an unfinished game somewhat.

And the worst thing of the game is PhysX... I can't imagine they've chosen this physics piece of crap. Not everyone has a second Nvidia Geforce lying around to function as a physics card. Plus, Nvidia PURPOSELY made PhysX run bad on CPUs. Havok would have made more sense.

And the city... well... it's beautiful, lots of activity... but that's it. It's only a painting, you can't do much in it. The purpose of the game is to drive to each mission.
It's a shame because the city has SO much potential it's sad.

All in all, it's a good game with HUGE missed potentials.
