This business model stinks for those of us who do not care for ESPN or any of its other subsidiaries. Why should our subscription costs go up to pay for a website we never visit? -- "Net Neutrality" zealots - the people you can thank for your capped Internet service.

Seriously can you breing up a technology that wasn't popular 25 years ago, costs $5000 and requires a 10 foot dish in my yard? I don't want DirecTv beause I can't stand the 18 inch dish.

| | | | said by P Ness:and how many people have been crying for al'carte pricing for eon's now. And people have been crying to the WRONG people. Everyone cries to the cable companies that they should have a la carte.
Except that it is the content providers that set the terms. ESPN won't be on your cable system if you don't include it on the basic tier and give them a fee per subscriber. And you must also include Disney with that.
If you don't like those terms, you don't get to carry ESPN at all, even if you want to put it on a sports tier and only let the people subscribe to it that want it. Because ESPN would stand to lose income from ALL subscribers.
That is the reason TWC doesn't have the NFL network. TWC wants it on a sports tier, NFL Network wants it available to all subscribers so that they can get a fee for all 15 million of TWC's subscribers. TWC obviously doesn't want that. So TWC doesn't get the NFL Network at all. And the same thing can happen to ESPN, Disney, and ABC on September 1st.

| Re: Other End of the Stick you keep thinking TWC will lose Disney-ABC. TWC has proven time and time again they'll give in. They gave in last time at the last minute and they'll do it again. Hell they even gave into BigTen when they were both fighting. BT got what they wanted. BT on basic cable. -- www.twopugsbrand.com Kosher, Vegan, and Organic Certified Dog and Cat treats/foods and other products! www.etsy.com/shop/snakx4u/ Organic, Kosher, Gluten Free, Vegan Human Baked Goods | |
