Re: Mafia 2 released... said by Mike:Continuity error in chapter 3. The union guy is reading a Playboy. Playboy was released in 1953. Ch 3 is 1945. Playboy has a licensing deal - which is why it's in the game in the first place. -- Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun - You might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome - Way out here. |

Cajun ManLet's Do the ZydecoPremium join:2000-12-28 Cajun Bayou | Well I just finished the game earlier today. I'm borderline on whether I like it or not.
It has some good things and some annoying things. Driving a car seems a lot more difficult then I remember it being in the first Mafia. I don't remember having as much problems over steering or under steering as I did in this one. And it seems like when I have to chase someone, there where more AI cars conveniently getting in the way.
Plus the fact they put busses in and you can't get on and ride them. I can steal one, but I was wanting to get on as a passenger like I could the trolleys in the first one. And the elevated trams you can't ride either. It's like they took out the things that made the first one fun. I liked riding in the trolley and upper trams from time to time.
And no free ride mode so once you finished the game, that's it. Unless you want to either replay the last act, load a previous chapter or start a new game. Then there is nothing you can do after you finish it. And it seems to go quickly. I mean if I can buy it Tuesday and have it finished by Thursday, that to me is a short game. It took me a lot longer to finish the original Mafia game.
I had fun playing it, but I don't think it was worth the $50 I paid for the PC version. Time to dig out the original Mafia and install the last Alive mod and have some fun again. -- Squeeze Dat Box T-Boy! Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! Join Team Helix and help find a cure. |

I feel bad for the people who got a collectors edition. |

Cajun ManLet's Do the ZydecoPremium join:2000-12-28 Cajun Bayou | I know what you mean. I was looking forward to seeing a Free ride type of game mode on this one. I thought they would have done it on this game like the first one. I think an updated Free ride in Empire City would have been a great thing to have.
But to have a game that I finished in 2 days, and no way to do anything else except replay the game over again makes me feel cheated in a way. I expected it to be more difficult then the 1st one and to me it was easier to get through the chapters then the original Mafia was.
Maybe they will add a Free Ride type of game as a downloadable content pack. But I doubt they will. -- Squeeze Dat Box T-Boy! Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! Join Team Helix and help find a cure. |

1 edit | The first Mafia is better! Yes it is.
This game involves 80% mindless driving from one place to another. It's as if the game designers want to be movie directors, and forgot that I'm supposed to have some say in the proceedings.
I initially thought some of the negative reviews were just idiot game industry reviewers poo-poo'ing the game because there wasn't enough explosions, but this really is one droll game.
I think you can do this kind of game if you really flesh out the game world, offer some side missions, and maybe even add in some RPG elements. But the plot itself is just an endless litany of mafia movie cliches, and the gameplay itself often put me to sleep. |
