There comes a point

There comes a point when I stop feeling sorry for people. When you elect someone you think is honest, and it turns out they are not, it is a shame. (and unfortunately, very common)

But when you KNOW without a doubt a guy is bought and paid for by big businesses, and that he has absolutely no interest in writing laws that actually protect consumers like yourself, and you vote for him anyway......who's really to blame at that point?

The voters, obviously, who have allowed the entire political landscape in this country be boiled down to a very simple model:

Us vs. Them.

Republican vs Democrat
Liberal vs Conservative
Choice vs Life

EVERYTHING is widdled down to 2 and only 2 sides. So the fact this guy is bought and paid for, yet reelected, probably had to do with some sort of "vs" and not the electorate actually "voting" for a candidate, rather just people belonging to their "group" for reasons most can not articulate.

It actually goes even further than that, although you're absolutely right. The "vs", as you put it so well, frequently isn't even about voting for a candidate, but "against" someone else. A lot of places nowadays it doesn't even matter who the one side votes for or who they get. As long as it's not "The Other".

Yep, it is a great sideshow to keep the real issues off the table! And the two parties have all but locked out third party candidates that really want to do some good.

Unfortunately, those of us with PoliSci degrees, or basic knowledge of how things *really* work get carried downstream by the rest of the voters.

Lawmaking should have an Every 8 years flush, where by anyone currently in cannot run again for Congress. Really do need to clean out the fridge once and awhile.

would not end the corruption of course.

Well, you want us to say the voter, but what happens when there is NO choice and ALL of them are corrupt?
Well, imho the system needs to change.

I don't think it's tied to any particular party. Even setting aside the jerks who just want to get rich, it costs money to run for office. So politicians need money to remain politicians. And getting that money means doing what the groups that have money tell you to.

Independents make me nervous. I know which special interest groups a democrat will shlep for, and which big businesses a republican will. Independents are going to follow orders, but you never know who's orders they'll follow.

Look at the money bags running on the far right. Spending $10s of millions of their own money do you really think they are for the average Joe. They talk like the are for you but they are just protecting their friends and themselves.
