| Quit guffawing about a FREE service! Sure are a greedy lot, eh?
I've used Voice since the inception (GrandCentral) and it's fantastic for what it is -- a voicemail box and a number I can give to someone I either don't trust with my real phone numbers or really never want to have to give out a "new" number to. And it's FREE.
It has pluses and minuses like any other service. I certainly wouldn't rely on it for my "main" telephone service -- it's on the same level as Skype and MagicJack for me -- I mainly use them when travelling or in the rare occasion where my cells have no service but I have a decent broadband connection.
The GMail plugin thing is kind of meh for me, I guess it's a nice add-on but probably won't get much use. I'd much rather see a dedicated Voice application (for Mac as well!) that allowed all the functionality of Voice without running through a browser. Flash and all the plugins and what not tend to create a pretty lousy and unstable VoIP environment. |
