 | Virgin Mobile USB Install Error, Help Anyone? I have tried installing my MC760 and once it installs it says found new hardware & then your software has installed but might not work property, the virgin mobile manger doesn't pop to download software, I even went to my computer but it wasn't there. Then.. went to "My computer - right click "properties" - hardware then device manger. There is a yellow icon like this "!" and it says something with a error with this "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."
Does anyone know what to do? VM doesn't provide drivers from there website.
&& I am also using Millenicom as my internet and using the same device, "U760" |

 | Huh? You already have a U760 but now are trying to install a MC760 Virgin model? Might have to un-install the U760 drivers then first. You do know one modem won't work with the other's service?
You need to tweak your environment to "show hidden devices", and then in Device Manager (with the modem unplugged) uninstalled all greyed items in USB and Modem and Ports, then try again plugging-in the device.
I too had trouble getting mine installed properly but eventually was successful. |

dib22 join:2002-01-27 Kansas City, MO kudos:2 | reply to BrandonNPal I had something like this happen to me in the past... I am not familiar with Millenicoms software but if its anything like Virgins then you you will need to get into the dialer and re-enable "auto launch" or "auto install" feature.
Once you do that when you plug it in it will launch the virtual cd with the software on it.
This is a poor design because if you untick Auto Install and then remove the dialer software it will never mount the virtual cd... and your stuck. And VM doesn't appear to have the download ANYWHERE on their website.
I am not sure how well 2 versions of novatel software will co-exist... but... if you do get access to the virtual cds by using the "Auto Install" checkmark copy them both (Mcom and VM's software) off to a thumbdrive for future use. |
|
 | I have to say I'm getting pretty disgusted with my MC760VM--it seems that every time I plug it in it wants/needs to re-install the drivers again, with System Restore points too ("Reinstall to an unsigned driver"). And Device Manager shows "greyed-out" residuals left-over every time.
I have forgotten more about computers than most people, but this thing is starting to get to me... |

| reply to dib22 If you had sprints smartview installed or the Millenicom Mobilink software. you must completely uninstall its programs **AND** drivers associated. Look closely in your control panel "installed programs". they are listed seperately, and so are the drivers.

the issue with the vm mc760 however is that when you uncheck "Auto Install" in their dialer it sets some flag on the device itself which keeps it from creating the virtual cd that then auto runs the installer... so if you uninstall their software with that "auto install" unticked your hosed until you can get a copy of the dialer software. |

I do have Auto Install ticked in the connection manager software, but still the Broadband2Go CD does not appear in Windows Explorer anymore. Very strange drivers indeed...
I did copy all the installation files to a safe place "just in case". |

 | reply to BrandonNPal Same thing happened to me. Does anyone know where I can download this dialer?

 | What eventually worked for me was: in Windows you have to set this environment variable in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Environment Variables
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
Then with your MC760 unplugged, go into Device Manager and tick under View "Show hidden devices" and then Uninstall the greyed-out entries (in alot of places including Disk drives, DVD/CD-ROM drives, Modems, Ports, and Universal Serial Bus controllers, I may have missed one or two!!!
Then try again and keep trying til it works! I think in fact that once I got the Broadband2Go "CD-ROM drive" displayed in Explorer, I copied the contents to C: and tweaked the .ini file and installed from there. Not a happy situation--Virgin/Novatel needs to fix their driver installation process! I dunno how non-pc-savvy customers deal with these install problems (yeah I know they give-up and return the device). |

 | reply to BrandonNPal thanks for the help Brandon,
I added the profile entry, rebooted, still nothing. The dongle still shows up as a regular usb thumb drive, with no contents.
Maybe I am missing something regarding the virtual cd rom thing. |

It is likely that the "usb thumb drive with no contents" that you are seeing is the Removable Drive for the memory card (empty). You need to get the Broadband2Go Virtual CD-ROM to appear, and the likely reason it's not is that your MC760 thinks you're already installed. You have to uninstall and clean-out all traces of drivers and try again as I said in my last post. |

 | reply to BrandonNPal thank you LASERFAN
Ive uninstall-ed the drivers a few times already. Ive also run ccleaner/reg clean. I assumed that what I was seeing was indeed the removable drive for the memory card.
As I see it, win7 still does not recognize the device. All I get in device manager is an unknown data interface under other devices.
Trying not to smash this thing into a million pieces. |

2 edits | Sorry but I hafta ask just to be clear--you did add the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and "Show hidden devices" and then right-click Uninstall each greyed-out driver from Device Manager?
Under Disk Drives - Novatel MMC Storage USB Device (two of them) Under DVD/CD-ROM drives - Novatel Mass Storage USB Device Under Modems - Virgin Mobile Modem Under Ports - Virgin Mobile Application Port, Virgin Mobile Status Port Under Universal Serial Bus controllers - USB Composite and USB Mass Storage Devices (maybe several of each)
And any other greyed-out exclamation-pointed "unknown data interface" items you can find.
Then you reboot and plug-in the MC760 again...
p.s. I've installed now to 4 PCs, 1 a Windows 7 x64, so I know what a pain this is--I've done it many times myself! But W7 does work--in fact for me it was the only PC that installed w/no problems at all! |

NOTE: this device might have older software (works fine on mine) but in the other thread it appears that the mc760 is shipping with a newer firmware (mine has 122 seeing 142 out there on the 760)
So only try this as a last resort to get your "auto install" ticked back on.. then uninstall and install the newer software.
And remember to make a backup copy of the newer software once you get the Virtual CD to pop open -----
I grabbed my MC760 today (been using the mifi lately) and here is the software that shipped with mine for any that need it.
The device is labeled as: 090926 KOREA MC760
And this is the windows software.
I have no idea if they have different versions floating around so if it doesn't work you might have a newer device (check the number on the top left of the esn sticker I think that is manufacture date). |

IllIlIlllIllEliteDataPremium join:2003-07-06 Lindenhurst, NY kudos:7 1 edit | well, i tried that one and got the same error halfway. it will install the drivers, but not the program. any possibility you could just copy the program folder itself ? i have all the registry keys in place.
edit: i got it working. thanks. -- ☺ |
