Re: [TWC] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol II -- Time Warner

You can get Internet stand alone. Not sure on price though.

AFAIK TWC doesn't even charge for a modem rental fee so buying one may not be worth it.

That's why I'm surprised that Best Buy even sells these. Why are people buying them? Are they superior to the ones that Cable Companies give out?

No, the one at BB is the same as the one TWC gave me last year.
TWC actually set up two modems in my house because I have the VOIP service and the DOCSIS 3.0 modem doesn't have that feature.

Anyway...can you just get Internet from TWC or does it have to be bundled with Cable TV?

In most areas. WB is 99 bucks and extreme is 20 bucks more than standard.

Do you guys know the prices for 30/5 or 50/5? I wasted 45 minutes on a chat session where they decided I needed to call in.

They are rolled out across the entire metro area but if you live in an apartment that has only analog service it is not available. They rolled out extreme and wideband last year in the 1 and 2 quarters of 2010 the rollout for dallas metro is finished.

Now austin and san antonio on the other hand are just getting ready to start their Docsis 3.0 rollout with the extreme 20/2 tier just launched in the rest of texas and will be bumped to 30/5 when D3.0 hits those markets.

Yeah TWC is giving out SBG6580's to people who subscribe to the extreme 30/5 or 50/5 tiers. These modems have 8 channel downstream bonding capabliites for future growth.

Are there Internet plans from TWC that require you to buy your own Cable Modem, or rent one from TWC? If so, that is ridiculous.

Not that I'm aware. For 30/50 plans it's free. I do know they won't activate your own modem for those plans.

I was looking at the Best Buy ad in Sunday's paper and they had a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem [which technically isn't a modem at all, IIRC] for sale.

As someone who has always had DSL, why would you need to buy a Cable Modem? Isn't this something that your Cable Company/ISP is always going to provide for you?

Yeah TWC is giving out SBG6580's to people who subscribe to the extreme 30/5 or 50/5 tiers. These modems have 8 channel downstream bonding capabliites for future growth.

Are the 30/5 & 50/5 plans available in only limited areas? I'm in 75002 & really want higher speeds.

they didnt add the new vod barker for iguide it is for navigator as it resizes a full 4:3 vod preview unlike iguide which is just a small window that has the guide overlaid on it.

They are more than likely employee testing Navigator right now or fixing to.

alos they added a new 3D channel on 997 this weekend it is labeled TW3D and is a 3D events channel and is SDV. So we now have 111 HD channels total.

They will have them according to the untangled blog it will be in 2011.

Navigator on motorola was the last hold up for multiroom DVR and now they got it stable and should rollout this year sometime possibly in the first quarter if they are testing now.

Wouldn't hold your breath, the same blog said remote DVR by end of 2010.

It is possilby testing right now as they have the vod barker for navigator on the system right now on QAM 93-3 next to the current vod barkers on 92-2 thru 5.

there is also a blank channel on 93-4 which might be for a tutorial channel in the near future for navigator.

LOL, the drunken monkeys are far more likely to have tripped at the plant and fell into some consoles rather than be testing Navigator... will never happen... Remember multi-room DVR coming? SDV and how late it was? How about Docsis 3.0 and how late it was? How about remote DVR that we still don't have, or anything else....

We might get navigator some day, but I'd be shocked if it was Q1 2011...

Any news on when Remote DVR Manager will be here in the DFW? Noticed the option on my services now, and when clicked says you need to be a beta participant?

The TWCableuntangled blog said they were shooting for Dec 31, 2010... they didn't make it...

The message I've always received is: Error code 704b: DVR Manager is not available in your division at this time.

Don't hold your breath... with iGuide and the motorola system, I expect we'll be lucky to get it in 2011... but here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Verizon has the 150Mbps per second over fios TWC locally has Docsis 3.0 with channel bond with speeds of 30/5 $70 and 50/5 $100 they use 4 downstreams and 1 upstream on the docsis 3.0 modems they issue out .

There are plans to roll out extreme and wideband to San Antonio and Austin this year and possibly other texas systems as well.
