Re: [TWC] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol II -- Time Warner

So, I was perusing the latest junk mail from Time Warner Internet Service and I came across this line:

"...and an always-on connection over our reliable Fiber Rich Network."

Fiber Rich? WTF? Can someone explain this? Is this even remotely true, and am I right in thinking that unless you are providing Fiber-to-the-Home [Premises], what is the point in bragging out this?

go to the TWC website and go up to the area and click on change and it should give you all the areas that TWC serves.

Lifetime HD

WGN HD
ESPN DEPORTES HD

You have an idea how many TWC website/areas there are? I'd be curious to do a comparison as to what HD channels other TWC areas have as opposed to us here in Dallas.

Re: Big Surprise on Weather Channel HD channel 738!

joe you will see it.

It is locals on the 8's for your area on the weather channel HD they had to get new equipment to provide it.

So now it will say dallas instead of the national weather on the bottom bar and you will get a localized weather forcast on the 8's instead of the national map on the 8's.

Re: [TWC] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol II -- Time Warner

there is basically going to snow on 6,19,28,38 and now 95-99 come june 21st when you tune to a tv directly connected to the cable with no box according to TWCdude.

So they are freeing up 9 channels by the 21st of june 19 should go dark soon as it now just a screenshot saying tune 21 for KAZD in spanish and the other 8 will be converted to digtial only on june 21st.

there has been a few channel move to digital only over the past 3 years:

2008:
Daystar 2 moved to 350 on digital box and CSPAN was moved from 27 to 2 freeing up RF 27.

2009:
TruTV 47
Style 50 moved to Digital Channel 150
Abc Family 61
CMT 63
Oxygen 73

2010:
Leased Access 15
Government Access 16

2011 (soon):
KAZD's former spot on 19
CSPAN3 6
CSPAN2 28
TXCN 38
Public access 95
Gov access 96
Educational access 97
Educational access 98
Educational access 99

I would not be suprised if we some HD announced very soon these are hitting wichita falls soon according to their latest legal notice last week so they could come to our system too!:
Lifetime HD
OWN HD
WGN HD
ESPN DEPORTES HD

next legal notice comes out on monday

I'm talking about rarely watched SD channels like CSPAN/CSPAN2, etc. IMO, they can make these "HD Only" channels to free up bandwidth.

Looks like this has to do with TWC sending notices out about SB6120s looks to me we might be getting 8 channel bonding soon for wideband.

motorola870,

As someone who does not receive TWC Internet can you explain what this 8 channel bonding is all about?

I love the idea of reclaiming analog [as well as SD content no one watches!] but I am disappointed TWC hasn't added a new HD Channel in ages. I don't count On Demand channels.

What happened to adding HD Channels?

Thanks.

motorola870 would you put that in simple layman's terms for me - and are you serious, no new HD Channels? How long ago was it that TWC added and HD channel - over a year ago?

does d04 and d06 show information?

Holding down select/ok and pushing the down arrow after the message light starts flashing gets into the Navigator diagnostics. Can you access the Navigator Diagnostics Menu?

hitting ok goes to the next navigator page this should tell us which version north texas is on.

Holding down select/ok and pushing the up arrow after the message light starts flashing gets into an extended Moto diagnostics menu.
Also can you see what this is about?

Also can you power off and hit menu to see if it even comes up because there are some settings that are not found in Navigator in this menu.

Under d08 (code modules) - Everything is N/A except "Boot Code: 09.55"

DOCSIS Status has four pages of populated information. DOCSIS is enabled.

Yes, the DCX3400M is my main DVR. I forget what the secondary modals are.

The tech that came out said that I was the first one the he had set up and that they (TWC techs) had not received any training! It ended up being painless......it only took him about 45 minutes to complete.

the boxes are motorola right?

runner 77

TWC has a different channel mapping scheme for the navigator boxes:

The VOD barker is different

Channel 1 is now a info screen saying how to access vod

and the EAS channel is different on the navigator boxes as well.

Had the new whole home DVR setup at my house last week. As far as everything working, it's all good. However, I'm not a big fan of the new Navigator on-screen guides. Maybe its just that I'm not use to it yet but there are a couple of things that are no longer available.

- 5 second skip can't be added to DVR features.
- There is no On Demand home screen! The only way you can get to on-demand is if you go to the channel you want watch shows on. For example, if I want to pull up a Disney show for the kids, I have to go to the Disney channel and then hit 'select' to view the "Kids & Family" section of On-Demand. If I hit the On Demand button on the remote, it takes me to a TWC ad that gives me a list of their channels. Premiums On Demand (HBO, Starz, etc.) are different, there is a 'Premiums On Demand' main menu in the settings.
- On the guide, all of the shows are highlighted in blue. No longer are movies, sports, or shows color coated. Makes it harder to navigate.
- No customizing available for the on screen guide.
- Can't record, rewind, delete, or pause from the secondary boxes in the house! boooo!!!
- Switching between channels with different outputs (480i, 720p, 1080i) has a 2 second lag on all my HD TVs.
- No fast forwarding on many On-Demand shows (not sure if that also applied to the old OD system).

Likes:
- On screen Caller ID!!!
- More DVR space
- Much faster navigation (no hangs yet)
- Once you get to the On-Demand screen, navigating is easier.
- I can turn closed captioning on and off without having to turn the box off.

I'll probably think of more and edit my post later.

After losing service on Friday at ~2:00 pm; service was restored on Sunday by 10:00 am. For some reason, On Demand service was not available until Sunday ~5:00 pm. Still no explanation for the area outage.

Re: [TWC] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol II -- Time Warner

Same problem in 75243 (NE Dallas). Cable and internet both went out Friday afternoon, came back early Saturday, down again this morning. There is no problem reported in our area per TWC.

I assumed it was wind related damage but who knows now.

Cable outage started at 2:00 pm Friday April 15, 2011; Dallas, 75214 zipcode. Sunday 8:30 am and cable is still out.

Friday recording stated TWC was aware of an outage in the area and was working the problem. Spoke to an agent on Saturday who could only repeat the info in the recording; so, no explanation whatsoever.

Fortunately our internet is not provided by TWC or our frustration would be ten times worse. We have not lost power or telephone service.

Does anyone know why / what is causing this outage in Dallas?

I will scan the letter later have to get some sleep. I have been getting random reboots the last few weeks with ok signal levels. The crazy thing is the phone modem has not gone down while the 6120 has been rebooting. I have also noticed them doing work in Dallas the last few weeks.

Im thinking it has to do with the CMTS at TWC in your area becuase I haven't gotten a letter about needing to upgrade to a new modem probrably an IOS upgrade that doesnt play well with the SB6120s.

There is some maintence in the dallas area this week so check back and see if your modem works after tonight between 12 and 6 am and thursday 12 and 6 am.

these are the hubs in dallas and surrounding areas so you should be affected tonight or thursday morning and this could be the upgrade that bricks your modem.

from the network status page:

Yellow 4/12/2011 12:00:00 AM 4/12/2011 5:59:00 AM 1200,1300,1400,1700,1D,1E,1F SERIES NODES
Yellow 4/14/2011 12:00:00 AM 4/14/2011 5:59:00 AM 1H, 1J, 1K,1L,1M,1N,2000 SERIES NODES.

If I am not mistaken this could be like the upgrade that I had back in January when CMTS in my are had an upgrade where they added new upstreams and flipped on QAM64 upstream modulation and also possibly IOS update.

The firmware is 1.0.3.5. I was also thinking could they be doing some upgrade to IPV6 the modem does say IPV4 only.
